Should I Bother with the Acceleration Pack?

Featured Replies

I have the original "Deluxe" DVD. I'm assuming I can download the service packs? Should I bother buying the acceleration pack?

I saw a couple of complaints that some things don't work with it. Do many add-ons require it? I'm guessing that even if I can't run DirectX 10 I can still have excellent graphics???

Sorry for the dupes. Obviously if there'd been some kind of response to my original submit I wouldn't have clicked post again.

There is some additional modeling of engine stuff in Acceleration and some HUD stuff for the F/A-18, and these are about the only things that are truly necessary for some add-on aeroplanes, although not all of them.

A2A's AccuSim used to require Acceleration for it to function fully, because of those engine parameters in Acceleration, but they found a way around that, so it is apparently no longer necessary for their stuff. Some IRIS add-on aeroplanes require Acceleration to function fully, for example, their military aircraft often will not display the HUD if you only have the Deluxe version of FSX with the SPs installed, rather than the Acceleration add-on. One or two payware choppers need the Acceleration pack because of the chopper gauges on the Merlin in Acceleration.

So I should think that if the above stuff is not your thing, then you could live without it, but otherwise it would be worth getting it.

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

Engine thrust calculation, afterburner handling, propeller drag etc... have been considerably improved with Acceleration as well.

On the Milviz 310 we unfortunately had to 'dumb down' the prop drag calculation just to make it 'SP2 only' compliant.

So even for simple GA planes it's better to go with Acceleration.

Yep, pick up the 'GOLD' edition of FSX, I sometimes see it in the bargin bin at EB games for 25-35 bucks

We now use Acceleration for all of our products,,,

If I already have FSX sp2 installed along with many addons that require it, is there a path to upgrading to Acceleration without a complete reinstall? Thanks, Bruce
