April 18, 200422 yr Greetings,Uh, actually, it's airhead's ACA 8KCAB Super Decathlon. The FFS guys offered to help host it for me. :)If you DL it and need support, head over to http://airhead.hfdd.com and head to the hangar. Enjoy!!!
April 18, 200422 yr Yep, really nice package. The model is very high quality all around. The 2D panel is excellent, and the VC is payware quality (remarkably close to the RealAir Deke). It flies great and it also seems to be extremely easy on the framerates... :)
April 18, 200422 yr Just a issues.I do want to say that this is top quality freeware. Some of the best I've seen in a good while. The exe installs an exe that you run to install the aircraft.. How odd. The exe was also installed on E:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9 E is where my OS is installed, FS is installed on C, the second installer did detect the location of FS though. The uninstaller does not uninstall all files it originally installed. Its things like this that cause some of us FS nuts to hate installers. All in all its worth the installer buggs though. I do admit a prefrence to the RealAir Decathlon VC, gauges and airfile. But This is still a top quality FS add on that has had lots of time and attention put in to it.
April 18, 200422 yr Greetings all,Thanks for the kind words, it is appreciated. As for similarities to anything from Real Air, I assure you it is coincidental. This is actually the update to my FS2002 Deke released last August at "the other flight simulation site". That was prior to the release of the other Decathlons, with exception to one built for FS2000 (develpers name escapes me at the moment). Not sure why you are having issues with installation. But, a little info on why it is packed the way it is. First, most sites will not accept anyting but a zip file, so it is wrapped in a zip. But zip files do not get very good compression, even at max settings, so the first .exe is a self extracting .rar file (rar files get much better compression). All you need to do is extract it, then run the installer. The installer will automatically find your FS9 installation via your Window's registry. These instructions are contained in the readme file. As well, there is important information in the user's guide, a must read (at least the first page or so). I know most peops don't like reading documentation, but it is quite important to do so. Why did I double wrap it you ask? Well, I understand that not everyone has broadband or good internet connections, so I thought if I could trim 3-4MB off the downloaded file, it would be appreciated. Why the installer? Well, for starters, not all users understand the aircraft container structure in FS, or want to for that matter. So by using an installer, it eliminates incorrect installation (and a lot of support questions). Bad install = no fun. This can be frustrating for some people. As for uninstallation, none of my beta testers had any issues with it. It should install and uninstall cleanly and quickly, which is another reason for using an installer. No need to hunt down gauges or effects files if you should decide to remove the aircraft. If you run into any issues, feel free to stop by the airhead website and forums and ask away, I am more than willing to help if you should encounter problems.Hope you all enjoy flying her!!!Real pilots fly taildraggers, and do it inverted. And remember to keep the oily side down when attempting to land.... :D
April 18, 200422 yr Don't walk to get it, RUN! It's a beautiful aircraft, congratulation to the author for that fantastic work!
April 19, 200422 yr SHWEET GEEEZUS!people, have you seen those breakers?HAVE YOU SEEN THAT DOOR HANDLE OPENING THE DOOR???you see something sticking out somewherenudge it, it sure does something:-)i'm in awe!how much did you say?hundred-and-twenty grand with peanuts...i'm thinking...:-lolps.skinz! where do i get them skinz now???
April 19, 200422 yr I downloaded the Airheads Decathlon today and took it for a spin. Here are my critisisms so far:1. It's too perfect.2. It's too amazing.3. The visual model is too stunning, and on top of that, its freeware!4. The sounds are too good. You could swear you're in a real aircraft.5. The feel of flight and the attention to detail in the VC are overly excellent. The conclusion is simple. This plane is a work of art, 'nuff said.James
April 19, 200422 yr Greets Vilk,>>ps.>skinz! where do i get them skinz now???>In total, at the moment, there are 16 total liveries for the airhead Deke. All but one are based on real aircraft, that one being the ERAU livery. 2 of the 16 are included in the base package you have downloaded and installed. The rest will be released at a rate of 2-3 every week or so until they are all gone. Livery release will likely start next week, unless I can find the time to start packaging them sooner. If you would like to view the liveries that will be available, head over to http://airhead.hfdd.com and click on the "custom paints" link on the right side of the page (next to the Deke graphic). This will bring up a small 3D model viewer and you can click on the different aircraft reg numbers to load each livery. Using your mouse, you can then zoom, pan and orbit the model to check out the selected livery. This viewer does require a plugin, but it should load quickly and automatically, and installation is safe.I haven't decided what the release order of the liveries is yet, though I have received some requests. If you would like, hop on the airhead forums and let me know what your favorites are. Who knows, maybe they will make it out early in the release schedule.3 of the 16 total were created by Morgan Dainow, a prolific FS aircraft repainter who also put together the paint kit for the FS9 release. Much nicer than the one I did for the 02 build, I must admit. Anyway, I highly recommend Morgan's work, he has done an excellent job of giving them the "used" appearance, a bit more than my other liveries. If you don't find one that suits, you may want to grab the paint kit and have a go at her yourself.EDIT: Almost forgot, the liveries will work with either standard or spat-less visual model, in case you were wondering. Livery packs will contain instructions on how to set that up if you don't already know...Thanks for taking the time to download and try out the airhead Deke, it is appreciated. :D
April 19, 200422 yr Aw shucks, James, you make me feel all warm and fuzzy...:)Glad you like her, have fun!!!
April 19, 200422 yr I've flown quite a lot of payware and freeware over the years, and I have to say, I am extremely impressed with this airplane! Absolutely on par with any payware Im aware of.Installers on aircraft I always thought was big time overkill. Who wants an registry entry when you should be able to just delete the file in the aircraft directory? (gauges should be in the panel directory..FS9 supports this!) One tidy file folder would be nice on all airplanes regardless of pay/free.In any case, congratulations on a great, great bird. Im now with two freeware Super Decathlons! The fact that these have Flight models by FSAviator means they are pretty accurate too!Eric AND
April 19, 200422 yr I am exactly with Eric above on this, really amazing work in all areas. Truly payware quality and a joy to fly. I loathe installers as well and this one is a bit tricky, but I was able to install into a temp folder and delete/uninstall it after I installed, no registry entry! If you are into small GA, this is a must have!!!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmtnhelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters Best, Michael KDFW
