Porter Airlines Pilots?

Featured Replies

Hey Avsim community,

I know there is a ton of real world pilots on these forums but are there any Canadian operators around YYZ? Only reason why I ask for Porter is because I love the Q400 so much, but if there is any Jazz, Air Canada, Porter, WestJet, etc. Pilots who could answer an 18 year old's questions, you'd certainly help my dream of becoming an airline pilot come true!

Just curious to see whose out there.

Thanks for your time!

Hi Cameron,

Head down to Island Air at the Billy Bishop Airport and take an introduction flight. You will love it.

Cheers

Hey Matthew,

Appreciate it! Already have some time in a RV-7A and I've gotten accepted into the Conestoga program at Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre. So I'll be flying by the end of the year! :)

More so just looking to see if there is any Q400 pilots in the area that can answer some questions that I've had about that beautiful aircraft!

Try changing the title of your post to something like "Real-world Q400 pilots" and you'll be more likely to catch their attention.

I'm a real world old school DHC-8-100 pilot not as cool but the girls seem to like it just the same!

Hey, any Dash 8 is the coolest plane on earth. Most pilots just think of them as the loud machines that clog up the lower airways but I have more respect for the Dash series of aircraft than I do the 787. I'm simply in love with them :)

It was a fairly advanced airplane when it was made.

Barely needs a runway. We go into PHJH and that is a fun one especially with a full load and winds of 25 gusting to 35. It is really gratifying to put it down on the numbers and get off on the second taxiway without having to use any brakes. It has a very quiet cockpit for a turboprop and very spacious!

They were designed with Canada's North in mind. If you can land up there you can land just about anywhere.

One day the Dash 8 Q300 and Q400 will be retired by the major regionals and sold to the operators in Canada's North. They will do well when they are converted into Combi's

They will probably still be flying in over 50 years around the world in many remote operations.

Well the series I fly were built by Boeing at the time :) of course they are going to last. Although we are transitioning the fleet over to ATR's because ours are timing out now. :(

This is true. Boeing owned the Downsview Plant from 1988 to 1992. They bought it from de Haviland in 1988 and sold it to Bombardier in 1992.

Boeing's purchase was to try and position itself to compete with a new Air Canada order. When Air Canada bought from Airbus instead of Boeing, Boeing sold it to Bombardier.

Mostly Boeing made changes to increase productivity however their decision to buy and sell it was mostly political. At this time Air Canada was government owned and when Canadian Politicians excepted bribes from Airbus, Boeing was locked out. This was when Boeing sold it and got out.

Every Canadian knows about the Airbus Affair :LMAO:

Oh yeah it was just a political move, but I can still say I fly a Boeing and be half right :LMAO:
