I use the "L" key at night to get the panel lights on.

But that turns on all lights.

... is there a switch I overlooked on the panel itself?

In the VC, left to the fuel switch, you'll find the knobs for turning on the panel lights. They could be hidden a bit behind the Yoke. But, as Bert says, Shift-L will also work. May there be light. :Star:

Prior I had seen the dimmer knob on the far left. It rotated but did nothing.

I never seen the center and right knobs.

 

I can now see it with TrackIr but it is difficult.

So, I created a camera view with EZdok with good results.

Yes, TrackIR or EZCA or you click the yoke away. That's what I do.
