May 5, 201214 yr Can someone help me with this question regarding the merge of "Career" folders? If I have a backup of my Career on a given FLIGHT install with the Activities, Arocaches(?), Missions I have played there, and then I merge it with the Career on another FLIGHT install where I have played different Missions/Activities and even Aerocaches. What will be the result when I start FLIGHT with the "merged" Career? 1) Will I have all of the Missions flown on both installs, as well as the Aerocaches, Activities, Points/Levels be there? 2) In the following list, what is saved localy on a given FLIGHT install, and what get's to the "cloud" in my GFWL account? - Missions - Activities - Aerocaches - Points - Levels - Achievements I am asking because I haven't yet started my Mission flying, and although my main FLIGHT install is now on my desktop, I still sometimes start FLIGHT from my notebook. I keep backups of the Career folders on both installs, but whenever I transfer between systems I replace the existing folder with the new one instead of merging. Ths in advance for you help! May 5, 201214 yr Sounds scary! I would suggest saving both folders and doing the merge on yet a third folder specially created for the task. Try it with that folder and if something horrible occurs you still have the originals. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... May 5, 201214 yr I don't think merging will work at all: I think all files will simply be overwritten... The files in the career folder always have the same name, so... I don't see how you could ever merge them!?! I think you have to make a choice with which career you will proceed and then ALWAYS copy the career to the computer you are going to fly on before starting Flight... Shame not everything is saved in the cloud: wouldn't be so hard to accomplish, you'd say.
May 5, 201214 yr Then too bad you could not redirect the folder to a memory stick and just carry it back and forth. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... May 5, 201214 yr Then too bad you could not redirect the folder to a memory stick and just carry it back and forth. Indeed. However, it should be possible to use a .bat to automatically copy the careerfiles from and to a stick everytime you start and quit Flight...!
May 5, 201214 yr For example: XCOPY C:\DATA G:\DATA /S Would copy all the files in C:\DATA and the sub directories to G:\DATA Just change those paths to the appropriate directories. May 5, 201214 yr Yes, that may be the best solution. You will not be able to merge your current two careers on the different machines, but you will be able to keep them synched from now on. You just have to pick which one you want to keep.
May 5, 201214 yr I agree, merging the career files might not work, although I haven’t tried it because of the hashed files. What I do is zip all career files (20) and put them on SkyDrive, then I download them onto whatever other PC I will use before starting Flight. If you haven’t done it yet, choose the career files that have the most missions and better scores. Use those ones as the base files. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
May 5, 201214 yr Author Ok guys, thank you all for the great hints!
