SIMPED Rudder Pedal Toe-Brakes do not work.

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a Saitek Cessna Pro yoke/throttle setup and combined that with a set of Simped F-16 rudder pedals/toe brakes. In order for the rudder/toe-brakes to be used I plugged into my Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar via a 15 pin gameport on the joystick base.

In an effort to reduce clutter I installed an older soundcard that had a 15 pin gameport and attached the Simped rudder to that, the rudder works fine and is recognized via FSUIPC but I cannot get FSUIPC to recognize the toe-brake axis. Funny thing is that FSX does not recognize the rudder axis in the contoller page.

Would a gameport to USB adapter (if available) be the best way to go or is there another way to enable the toe-brakes?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

Back when I had my Gameport CH rudder pedals I ran into the same problem when I built a new machine without a gameport.

I bought a Rockfire USB adaptor from Ebay and it worked great.

Hi Robert,

I do not have the Simpeds - wish I did - but have been doing some investigating as I currently have the TM Cougar setup with the older TM Elite rudder pedals, which plug into the 15 pin connector on my Cougar joystick. I have just ordered the newer TM Warthog setup and was considering keeping my Elite rudder pedals to use with it.

I think currently your only options with the Simpeds that plug into the Cougar joystick base are:

As you mentioned, use the Cougar base basically as an expensive serial to usb connector. Obviously you can disconnect the throttle from it, and also remove the joystick handle, to where you only have the base for it to plug into. You may already have done this, if not would help reduce some clutter.

Alternatively, I am sure I saw somewhere that someone was offering a "kit" to convert the Simped's 15 pin connector to a usb connector - but I think it is somewhat " involved" and may not be for the timid so to speak. If interested I am sure you could find the same by searching for it - I don't remember where I actually saw that info.

I don't think you will have a lot of success with just a standard serial to usb adapter to work with those rudder pedals. Maybe others that have them and have done the same will chime in with better info regarding that.

Btw, I ended up just ordering a new set of USB rudder pedals to use with my new Warthog setup, as I really wanted to finally have toe brakes as well.

Hope this helps and best of luck,

Don B

Hello

One of these works fine. it has a 4 position switch, one of the positions works for CH stuff

Worked with my Ch rudders/brakes and also with my AETI yoke and rudders.

EDIT.

I see that it is not a standard gameport connector, could be an issue getting an adaptor that works.

Probably best to sell them and get a USB version.

Ok I found the writeup I was thinking of when I first replied here:

This is a nice detailed writeup of how to get the gameport version of the Simpeds converted to USB, by using one of Leo Bodnar's chips.

As you can see, it is quite involved - if you are into that sort of thing, and really want your Simpeds to work via USB, sounds like would be worth doing.

I think your only other option to keep using your current Simped's would be to continue to use the Cougar joystick base to get it connected to your usb port.

Otherwise, consider selling and getting USB rudder pedals as Mad Dog suggests. Obviously Simped offers a usb version as well if you want to stay that route.

Thanks for the link's fella's. Interesting reading through all the "how-to's." Although I do not think I am technically challenged I will stick with the Cougar base for the time being. I just purchased a new 27" LED 3D display so I am not in the market for a new set of USB rudders at the moment.
