May 17, 201214 yr I am about to do my first overclock on my brand new system that I just built. I have read pros and cons about BIOS updating. Any general opinion if I should update the BIOS before overclocking? Thank You.
May 17, 201214 yr You should have the latest bios installed UNLESS you do not have any problems what so ever with the one you have right now. Good luck with your overclock.

A BIOS upgrade is not necessary unless you will benefit from the actual improvements of the update and will not necessarily enable a better overclock.. I am speaking from experience where I have upgraded my BIOS in the boards that I have had when one was available. The BIOS upgrade I performed on my PZ68-Deluxe was a disaster, so much so I bricked the board, The new UEFI BIOS are unable to be rolled back as in previous versions. Do some research on the particular boards website to ensure the upgraded BIOS has no bugs before even contemplating an upgrade. I acquired another board, have the shipped BIOS and the board is running without fault and is overclocked! The original BIOS I had did the best for over clocking. I updated, it did worse, so I had to go back to a former BIOS to resume the better over clock. That's my 2 cents! Noel That's fine with the older BIOS but as I said, you cannot rollback the UEFI BIOS. If you update and the BIOS and then discover it it's no good you are stuffed! May 20, 201214 yr You can downgrade Andrew, just not with EZ Flash I tried to downgrade using AFUDOS and bricked the board. Have a look on the ASUS support forum, there are heaps of posts regarding the issue of rolling back a UEFI (BIOS). Just out of interest have you rolled back a UEFI BIOS to a previous version and which method did you use? Just out of interest have you rolled back a UEFI BIOS to a previous version and which method did you use? No, truth is I've never tried it myself. If you have experience with that, and unfortunately not that good an experience, I'm in no position to argue. I have read some of those posts too, but I'm still not sure if there's a (reasonably) safe way to downgrade the BIOS to a previous version. Read something about EZ Flash 2

Read something about EZ Flash 2 Hi Dario,Over the years I have always updated the BIOS in the boards that I have owned, if the BIOS was no good I would just downgrade to the previous version. I would have done this 10 times or so, never had an issue.......until this Motherboard and this UEFI. The upgraded UEFI is a disaster with many bugs so when I tried to downgrade the issues were highlighted.
