Debating whether to get Xplane10

Featured Replies

Say what you will about costs of computers, peripherals, graphic cards... I bet this conversation wouldn't be taking place if the price wasn't close to $70.

I think X-Plane looks fantastic. Personally, now that I'm into my RW IFR training, I'm getting more out of FSX (and a 2-screen setup) than I ever have, save for practicing a few short x-countries using TileProxy. But for IFR, I've been really happy with the RealityXP stuff (gauges and 430/530) even running on a crummy old machine.

For running when I feel like looking out the window (under bootcamp on my mac), I'm thrilled with the ability to VERY quickly add detail at airports with Instant Scenery 2, and I'm still strongly considering Massive Scenery.

Again, I think XPX looks great - and it's off to a great start - but it's too early for me and too difficult to create a training rig (e.g. large enough instruments on a 2D panel) and airport environments for me to jump ship from FSX yet. I haven't looked closely at Prepar3d, so I can't really comment in terms of whether I'd move up to it vs. XPX.

I just want to agree with LAdamson, I have been flying GA from the mid 60's. I though Flight 2004 was"

As Real As It Get's" Well here came FSX. Yes lots of time and a few add-on's, but is it good? NO It's Great.

I run it full tilt if wanted (All slipers to the right) unlimited framing. It runs like a movie. That said have worked with the X-Plane Demo

for Many hours now. I am 72, If I mean IF they get it up to FXS level while I( am stell around I'll look at it again. Probley a few

years up the Road..

P.S. Dont loose your Medical - It Suck's

Honest oldfunflyer, if I liked a sim as much as you do...I'd fly it and wouldn't worry too much what others have to say. However, I disagree with your opinion concerning it's capabilities as a GA simulation. Flight simulators and religion are closely related, you ain't gonna convert the Pope :).

On a lighter side, failing your medical is inevitable. At some point in time, we all do...take care.

However, I disagree with your opinion concerning it's capabilities as a GA simulation.

GA..............is about all, I use that MS sim for. It does a rather good job.

Agreed Larry, but I was challenging his perception of XPX as a GA simulator, not FSX. My fault, worded it confusingly.
