Uumm that VFR Terrain sure is tasty!

Any UK VFR scenery users contemplating whether or not to purchase the new VFR terrain...just do it! :)The difference it makes is astonishing. I re-installed FS2K2 to get the most of the 19m LOD (FS2K4 only goes down to 38m...so I'm told)Flying around Wales, the first thing you notice is the boulders, spinnys etc, they all stand proud of their surroundings. The mesh is REALLY accurate with respects to the VFR textures. The other more subtle thing I noticed was that the patchwork quilt of fields has a lot more definition i.e fields tend to be bordered on natural contours of the land, and this really stands out with the new mesh. Rivers have much greater definition now with fields sloping down to river-banks, and the troughs where rivers have cut through over time are clearly defined.Frankly this mesh is nothing short of amazing..and increases the 'suspension of belief' by a huge factor and brings the VFR scenery to life!p.s. I have no association with horizon simulations who make this product...just passing on my observations..Cheers:-waveSatchmo

Also remember that the mesh works fine with default scenery, for those who don't have the Photo scenery.I ordered the VFR Terrain last week. Looking forward to trying it out when it arrives.

Any piccies, Why doesn't FS9 support 19 LOD?

Alaister Kay

Only done a few hours in it since I bought it (used on VFR Scenery). Some initial comments to add (FS9):* Wales is great! Fly from Welshpool to Caernarvon and see what I mean.* Not well advertised, but the Mesh is for most of Europe and the States.* Default scenery is very good. Alps are now seriously big.But...* Kent - can't see any real difference. North Downs (400') still look way too flat. No real marked improvement on lowlands. I will reinstall FS2K2 and review when I get a chance. White cliffs of Dover are still green - big disappointment.* Curiously lost some of the modeling in Gary Summons British Airports. Half of Headcorn was wiped out, even after a reinstall.* minor deterioration of FPS when used with VFR Scenery on my 2 Gig rig. Not noticeable with default. So mixed results for an expensive package (

Hi Richard. Are you sure you are talking about the product that the original poster was talking about?I think the original poster is talking about the product from Visual Flight called Vfr Terrain by Visual Flight and Horizon Simulation which is a mesh of just England and Wales that is based on the NextMap terrain map.I think you are probably talking about the FS Terrain product published by Just flight if you are mentioning that the USA and Europe is also part of the product. This is a different product entirely. The UK mesh in that product isnt as detailed but its still pretty good but you will see things like the white cliffs of dover still being green where as the mesh from Visual flight actually has white cliffs. Also this new mesh is quite detailed. If you fly over a quarry for example you can really see the depth of it and see that a chunk is actually cut out of the ground or a hill and even some railway cuttings and motorway cuttings Ive noticed have a kind of 3d feel to them now. You can even fly down some of them. In FS2002 its more detailed though so some of those things you dont see so much of in FS2004 due to the fact that FS2004 cant render mesh at such a high detail.Craig

VFR TERRAIN MESH is superb. Oh s**t, I think I've been had. Didn't spot the difference in the title, saw it in PC World and bought it.Don't want to spend another

Installed this last night. What a difference. This is a fantastic addition to the VFR Scenery.

Nothing like resurrecting an older post. The UK VFR Terrain is so good loaded on FS2002. The coast and water-line definitions are nothing short of almost being real.Within FS2004, I sure wish that some of the terrain and landclass developers would see this. I would be willing to pay good money to see coast and river definition in the USA similar to the UK VFR Terrain. So, FS Genesis and competitors, here is a chance to enhance our Flight Sim S2004 world that much more, and make some money in the process.
