Harddrive read error =

Hi guys,

I am currently running a faulkty harddrive which is my FSX one, which is being replaced sometime in the near future,

In the mean time I am getting slow loading textures, greyed out cockpits [for a few seconds] and airports loading slower, could this be down to the faulty harddrive reading the textures slowly or incorrectly?

Cheers gents,

more than likely.

In any case, be sure that your data is backed up!

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

Load fsx on c: drive and be done with it with the size of drives now just adding complexity that is not needed just my opinion. Load it here c:/fsx not in program files. Good luck Alex.

My C drive is a 120gb SSD, so FSX is not going there! :P

Alex,

That is a serious situation. I live in dread of my hard drive crashing so what I did was buy a SATA drive on ebay and then use a Ritmo device to make a clone of my original drive. Very simple and very cheap devices. You not only back up your data but you have a fully functioning exact copy of your original drive. So the new drive goes in and old, still working drive, goes into the safe.

I would hate to have to reinstall everything particularly from CDs that are several years old and even if that all worked, then spending days to reset tweaks, freeware add ons, all those cfg settings and what have you. I know it may not help you much but it is perhaps something to consider for the future.
