Finally - a decent IL-76!

Many thanks. I will have to try it later. The site is currently down.

Edit: OK got it. Thanks. Mainly small texture fixes and aircraft.cfg fixes for lights and radio.

Still no landing lights though.Straight%20Face.gif

Hello again John, there were a few problems with the model some of which have been sorted out... I am in contact with Ilya and hopefully in time we will sort out the rest.

I found these contact points gave me some nice gear compression.

Hi Ed.

Very confusing We seem to have totally different files.

My panel.cfg shows most of the gauges referenced to STT_IL76_V1_39!

I presume you are referring to the Overhead section [Fixed Window35].

I just cut/paste from the forum. As I said I do not use either panel.

You mention you have the Fary xml gauges already......well they are what you need to animate your lights.

Thanks Ed. I was referring to the the whole issue of putting Russian-developed aircraft together as confusing.

Apologies if you thought I was referring to you. I now realize that although I have the Fary files in my Gauges folder, there is no mention of them in panel.cfg.

No wonder the lights don't work!

John

I found the panels to be complexity for complexity's sake. Using PT-154 and PT IL-62 gauges doth not an IL-76 make.

This model could be ever better if Ilya embraces XML animation for the gear and flap movements, doors etc etc.

XML animation for models are essential these day and far better (smoother) than the stock FS animations....and the IL-76 gear movement sure deserves it.

In fact once learnt the world is your oyster. For example here is an idea no modeller has implemented yet.

You are using the excellent AES for pushback .....when the aircraft turns the nosewheel does not.....now that could easily be programmed using xml for models.

I am in contact with Ilya and hopefully we can upgrade what is already a very nice model. And hopefully Oliver will give us an extra long towbar!

In the end I just opened FS Panel Studio and put the four Fary switches on the overhead.

Landing and taxi lights now extend and work perfectly.

Now if only I cold get the reversers to work properly ...............Straight%20Face.gif

This is one of the things the patch I mentioned addresses - its got some things you need to replace in the aircraft.cfg under the [LIGHTS] (original cfg had stuff to do with shockwave lights) and [RADIOS] sections and it provides new models too - it worked ok for me. Congratulations if you managed to fix it yourself!

Don't think I can help you with the thrust reversers. I can't think of anything else you can try - sorry.

This panel gave me some issues too and it still does (it a bit of a mess in there for sure) - I'm having problems with the TCAS and some other stuff as well. Also the joystick set up utility in the IL-76 is linking directly to my Project Tupolev IL-62 settings! Maybe its because this IL-76 Panel is entirely based on the PT IL-62M one - these types of mishmash panels have usually given me lots of grief.

Its still a nice experience to fly this plane, even with the problematic panel. I had my heart set on this panel, because it looked good and offers some nice things but in the end I'll probably end up hunting around for an alternative.

There's also been an IL-76 model with a VC floating around for a while:

img40978_1.jpg

Latest repackaging/incarnation: http://www.avsimrus....76td-43101.html

Prior version: http://www.avsimrus....76td-40978.html

Don't expect perfection though (not quite finished and again its a bit of a mishmash of PT and other gauges); and the new IL-76 ouside model is better.

..............

I am in contact with Ilya and hopefully we can upgrade what is already a very nice model.........

Good luck Ed!

Now if only I cold get the reversers to work properly ...............Straight%20Face.gif

Even with a normal joystick setup it was an interesting challenge.

Having worn out two CH throttle quadrants I now only use the single throttle on my CH yoke and have assigned a button on it to activate the reversers.

After watching numerous videos I noticed that on the IL-76 normally only engine 1 and 4 reversers are used......so I assigned a button to activate engine 1 reverse and then FSUIPC to mimic the button press for engine 4.

Unfortunately the ground spoilers are linked to the reversers at the moment. (I would like some custom xml here so they are separate) I added a xml gauge that will deploy the spoilers when the ground spoilers/reversers are activated.

I'm afraid I do not know what is inhibiting your reversers. :Straight Face:

  • 1 month later...

calypso,

I think I may have found out how to help you wth the thrust reversers issue.

Finally had enough free time to play around with this in detail. The panel for the IL-76 (the one we're using, recommended by the authors of the model) actually links to the joystick setting of the Project Tupolev IL-62M and some other things from that panel as well. Don't think it was meant to do that but it does.

If you have the PT IL-62M installed, look for file 'IL62_gau.cfg' (it will be in folder ......./gauges/Il62_CFG). Open it with notepad and find the entry:

revers_handle_on=1

change it to:

revers_handle_on=0

(its set to 'revers_handle_on=1' by default). They were trying to make the IL-62 reverse thrust more authentic by letting users operate the thrust and the reverser doors separately. However this was problematic for some. I changed my setting to '0' a long time ago and then promptly forgot about it.

As this IL-76 panel links directly to that PT IL-62M setting - if its set to '1', I found that I have the same problems as you with the IL-76 reversers, however changing it to '0' solves that and they operate normally.

EDIT:

Ed has also uploaded some very nice repaints for this IL-76 in the library:

il76_sum.zip

il76_aaf.zip

il76_inv.zip

il76_rab.zip

I advise anyone who uses this model to check them out.
