Finally - a decent IL-76!

Featured Replies

I have always wanted to fly this beast, but for some reason, there only seemed to be mostly traffic models available.

Some attempts were made to put flyable models, panels and gauges together but the Russian developers did not make it easy to sort out the various bits and pieces and put them together.

Found this one on Avsim RUs. The readme file contans a link to the panel.

No VC, but I'm not a big VC fan anyway.

Experience with the other major Russian FS aircraft (Tu-154, Tu-134, etc.) certainly helps.

No English documentation so far.

Manged to get most of the functions to work but still playing with it. Handles like it should (big and heavy) and excellent Soloviev engine sounds are included in the panel download.

That model looks absolutely wonderful, for saying it's a freeware! :biggrin: I'm quite blown away.

Only just got back in to flight simming and Avsim after a year or so - pardon me whilst I find my feet again!

Hi

Managed to download and install all the relevant components for this great piece of freeware, but the problem is that the engines appear to constantly produce full power and do not respond to the throttle. The only time that power is reduced for some reason is when I apply the brakes but as soon as I release them full power develops again. As a result the aircraft is essentially unflyable! Although the sound is great, this is not the way I want to experience it! Have never had this problem with any of multiple freeware addons which I have installed, but. as my knowledge of Russian is non-existent, perhaps I have done something wrong in the installation here. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Bill.

First thing that comes to mind is the joystick setup.

In case you were not aware, the Il-76 comes with a joystick configurator which needs to be set up for your joystick.

The FS joystick must then be disabled for the configurator to work.

Give it a try and let me know.

John

Yup, it uses the same Joystick set-up utility as the Project Tupolev airplanes, and there's a lot of PT gauges in the pannel too.

I know this one, work has been quitely mounting on a complex freeeware IL-76 and they released this updated model last 2-3 months - its a fantastic model with great FDE, and the panel is brilliant too (the manual is good but only in Russian, you can get the jest of it through Google Translate but not everyhting).

The link in the Russian readme for the panel files (including the manual): http://www.khakassia...ot/ILYUSHIN-76/

Strongly recommended.

There's been rumours of work potentially beeing carried out on a VC too at some point.

O how I wished this worked in fsx :(

Im pretty sure I tried it two weeks ago and it didn't work. But I'm not sure maybe I'll try again

It turns out to be true, I will jump for joy! jumping.gif

This plane looks magnificent, like all great addons our Russian friends make.

Really enjoying this one.

Stuck on a few relatively minor things though.

The Engines panel (Shift 2) has a panel on the bottom right which refuses to open. It says Throttle Quadrant on the clickable area.

Reversers work but will not open fully. I have the throttles set with negative indexes (works on other Russian Aircraft) but the buckets seem be held back. Arming switch somewhere?

Landing lights come on but lamps will not extend. Tried all the usual animation keys, but no luck, Switches are on extended and lit.

Any ideas please?

John

Hello John, I do not use this panel.....I decided to make my own. I do know that the landing/taxi lights are a custom xml animation so the usual animation keys will not work.

Check page 3 at the avsim(dot)ru forum (IL-76 visual model) for a fix.

I do love this model and I hope Ilya will take it to the next level with more custom xml animations.

On the joystick set-up utility you also have a part that says: Reverse; and there's a white square next to it with a number inside, default value inside is zero. Have you also tried setting this to 1 when setting up your throttles? - There was something along those lines in the IL-76 panel manual.

If that doesn't work. There is also a file amongst the panel gauges called IL76_GAU.CFG (inside folder 'IL76_CFG') - it contains:

*************************

[system]

msrp_speed_min=100

msrp_one_file=0

non_fixed_flaps=1

revers_handle_on=0

revers_differenc_on=1

thrust_correct=0

panels_auto=1

tail_gear_var=1

azs_nose_gear_pos=0

[sound]

sound_on=1

sirena_lev=70

dinamik_lev=70

telefony_lev=70

zvonok_lev=70

[load]

load_in_luft=1

*************************

Try changing the number from 1 and 0 on these two:

revers_handle_on=0

revers_differenc_on=1

see if that helps

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't think there's a throttle quadrant panel included.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The landing lights involve some custom XML in there I think -

Fary_Land.xml

Fary_Land_Vypusk.xml

Fary_Taxi_Vypusk.xml

Fary_Taxi.xml

Not entierly sure about it - will try to check on this and get back to you.

I am not an expert on this IL-76 panel and havent spent a lot of time in it. Although its largely similar, some things in it are a little different compared to the Project Tupolev planes.

EDIT:

Hello John, I do not use this panel.....I decided to make my own..............

I think I sore it in your video with the IL-76. Was wondering where did he get that from :) - I'd love to try out your panel.

Thank you Momtchil and Ed.

Still struggling, I'm afraid.

Made the changes in the gauge.cfg file, but the reversers still refuse to work as on the il-62.

I can see the buckets trying to swing out, but something seems to stop them deploying completely.

Ed. I can't seem to find that particular post. Do you have a link please?

I do have those Fary xml files in my main Gauges folder.

Thanks

John

Hi John,

Thanks for the quick reply. I did find the joystick configurator (JoySERVICE?) but didn't realise it needed to be set up for my joystick. I currently use a CH Pro Yoke and my FS9 is configured for this. I'm sorry if I seem stupid, but I am not quite clear about what needs to be done after I disable the CH Pro Yoke! Am I meant to recalibrate it using JoySERVICE and are there any instructions for this?

Select the IL-76

Once all is loaded:

Ctrl+K to disable the Joystick in FS9 (press Ctrl+K again to enable it whenever you need to, i.e for other aircraft).

Shift+8 to enter the joystick config panel and start setting it up. Its the Project Tupolev (PT) joystick set-up utility - For more info you can check the English manual on the PT Tu-154M; Tu-154B2, or IL-62M - They all have it, and it was originally taken from there.

EDIT:

Also don't worry about messing up any other settings you may have by using this, the PT joystick utility writes all into its own .cfg file located in the gauges folder for the aircraft.

Just realised to ask - are you using the patch available for this model:

http://www.avsimrus....l-76-44263.html

Filename - 44263-Il-76-patch.zip

If not, try it.

Many thanks. I will have to try it later. The site is currently down.

Edit: OK got it. Thanks. Mainly small texture fixes and aircraft.cfg fixes for lights and radio.

Still no landing lights though.Straight%20Face.gif
