Throttle problem at takeoff

Featured Replies

I have been going through the 1st tutorial but have a problem taking off. I increase N1 to 40% on both engines and engage TOGA. N1 and TO/GA appear on the FMA but N1 does not increase. I have FSUIPC4 installed but am using FSX to assign and calibrate the throttles (I'm using CH throttle quad). The throttles are working OK as when I move them on the CH quad the 737 throttles respond accordingly. I have tried going through the tutorial from scratch several times but get the same problem. It's getting annoying. It's probably something stupid I'm doing and I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi,

Do you have both flight directors turned on?

The N1 doesn't increase after you press TO/GA or it does not increase at all from the start?

Sounds like you need to change the autopilot overrides throttles setting.

Thanks to those who took the time to reply. I tried the suggestion to disable the throttles. I increased the power to N1 and when both engines reached 40% I pressed Ctrl+K, pressed TOGA and the engines powered up OK and so Ctrl+K got around the problem but is not an ideal solution. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I have A/T Manual Override set to NEVER.

I would suppose it is something between your FSUIPC / CH throttles intercation. Another threads claim that one should disable some option in fsuipc about the controls, don't remember which one.

In FSUIPC make certain that you have your throttle axis assigned using the type of action "Send direct to FSUIPC Calibration".

Then go to Joystick Calibration page 3. Throttle 1 and 2 should say "Axis is not processed". If not the just hit Set then Reset and click OK.

You should have your A/T manual override set to "In Hold/Arm Mode Only".

That will allow you to abort a takeoff by pulling back the throttles and deploying the reverse thrusters.

Hi Porchpup. I did what you suggested and it has solved the problem. Many thanks. I had the A/T manual override set as you suggested originally but switched the setting to NEVER just in case my quad was affecting the A/T. I don't know if I will be able to set the CH quad to be able to use reversers when calibrating using FSX. I doubt it but that is another problem. I've always used FSUIPC4 until now. Thanks again to all who replied.

I'm not sure how the CH works but on my Saitek there is a detent when you pull the throttle back beyond idle.

This detent shows up as a button in FSUIPC. Set the reverse thrusters like this...

I've tried it using my CH Quad but FSUIPC4 does not seem to recognise moving the throttle from idle to reverse as a button. The only thing I can think of is to use a spare button on the Quad to set reverse thrust. Not ideal but short of buying a Saitek it's the best I can think of.
