May 22, 200422 yr Have recently reinstalled the Bill Lyons Water Textures for FS2004 and for some reason my wave effects are now all speeded up. Whereas before they would realistically lap against the shore now I just get white lines strobing backwards and forwards (as though the wave effect has been speeded up!).Anyone experienced this and has a fix for it or any suggestions?ThanksAdam
May 22, 200422 yr AdamI'm having the same situation but am not using Bill Lyons textures. I'm wondering if there's a way to open .fx files and edit them. Are the Bill Lyons files just textures or also an .fx file?Davidedit: Just found that you can open .fx files with Notepad if you want to have a go at changing them.
May 23, 200422 yr Hi DavidHmm.. thought it may require a change in one of the FX file - any idea which one? I will go through them this afternoon and see if there are any obvious ones for adjusting "wave speed".Thanks for the tipAdam
May 23, 200422 yr I posted some time ago on this issue ... it's happened to me too, I can't get rid of it. It HAS to be a third-party install that has caused it, unless my Nvidia drivers are doing a dirty on me. I have carefully checked the default FX files and they are all fine.So now what? I install so much stuff, that I have no idea what to try next (short of disabling my waves, which works of course but leaves you with calm seas). Somewhere, hiding someplace, is a naughty FX file override .....Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
May 23, 200422 yr Yes it's really annoying. I am using a Radeon card so looks like its common to both. I have looked at the fx_waves file in the effects folder but not sure which one to change to make them slow down:-(I don't think its anything to do with the Bill Lyons water textures as they are only replacement BMP files but SOMETHING has changed it without asking (aaaaaaaaaagh!)RegardsAdamAdam Moorewww.hhuk.netWin XP Pro - Dell Dimension 4500P4 2.54 GHz - 1GB RAMHiTech Radeon 128MB 9800Pro IceQOmega ATI Drivers19" CRT 1600x1200 @ 100hzAudiophile 24/96FS2004 + UK2000 1/2/3/4/5/6/EGLL PROUK VFR 1/2/3/4UK TERRAIN MESH www.visualflight.co.ukUltimate VFR : RealAir SF-260Ultimate IFR : PMDG 737-700NGUltimate FUN : RealAir Scout
May 23, 200422 yr AdamIn my effects folder I have three files refering to waves. fx_lakewaves.fx and fx_waves.fx which appear to be made from a generic .fx file template, so a lot of the parameters shown are probably not used. Both use fx_swoosh.bmp and fx_swoosh2.bmp for textures. The third is wavecontroller.fx which points to fx_waves.fx . Also, the three .fx files are all dated 2/28/03. Now all you have to do is figure out how to fix this for us!David
May 23, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi, Why not copy the default fs2004 effect from the fs2004 cd and overwrite fs2004effect folder, you won't lose any new effect added since overwrite only replace same name files. All 3rd party reflection are not related to the FX filesThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
May 23, 200422 yr <<<<>>>As I said in my previous thread, I've been that route, Adam, David and Chris. It's not the default ones. They are fine. Something else is overriding the defaults.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
May 23, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi, You don't have too many choice, rename your existant effect folder to effectold, restore the effect folder from the fs2k4 cd to your fs2004 and test, add newer 3rd party effect little by little that's you think are not related to the water wave effect and start the simThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
May 23, 200422 yr Heck, that would take a month of dedicated work, Chris! My own EFFECTS folder is massive now!But if anyone wants to try that .... I'm waiting to hear what you find .....!!Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
May 24, 200422 yr Yes sadly don't have time to go through replacing and testing:-(Hopefully someone more technically minded than me will let us know which is the relevent effects file that controls the speed of waves.Adam
May 24, 200422 yr David highlighted relevant files, above, but the key is the 'wavecontroller' file in EFFECTS. However, mine is default, no changes there. One can try adjusting that, but why, if it is default? Something else is the mischevious monkey ....Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
May 24, 200422 yr Well I will annoy the other half tonight and spend an hour or so tweaking the wave controller file (after backing it up of course..)I just hope they dont ask what I am doing (try explaining it to someone not remotely interested in Flight Sim:-)RegardsAdam
May 24, 200422 yr <<>>LOL. Yes .... "just adjusting my waves, dear, be with you in a minute ...." I can see it now. She'd probably call a doctor.Mine stands at the back of the room whispering to friends "He thinks it's real ....". What she doesn't realise, of course, is that it is. This is perfectly clear to my three-year old daughter, who is already proficient with the Bell 47 (although Daddy does the pedals).Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg _________________________ Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont VP Fleet, DC-3 Airways Team Member, MAAM-SIM
