June 30, 201213 yr SSd's are getting faster and cheaper with the improved technology. Will raiding 2 units be worth it speed wise? Since they are fast to begin with sata 3 allowing higher bandwidth, what say you? All replies welcomed, thank you.
July 1, 201213 yr Honestly, when it comes to RAID, Crossifre, or SLI, I firmly believe that single solutions are the safest, most reliable solution.
July 1, 201213 yr You would need to spend a fortune on a hardware Raid solution as motherboard Raid controllers are pretty much all crap, they rob processor time from the CPU and thus FSX which is obviously the opposite of what you are trying to achieve. Even if you did spend the cash it still wouldn't make much of a difference, FSX is an old extremely inefficient engine that past it's designed limits long ago, their just isn't any more blood that can be squeezed from the stone in that regard once you go with a fast SSD. Cheers, Andy.
July 2, 201213 yr I doubt it would be worth it. For everyday tasks the main benefit of SSDs comes from their ultra-low latency, not their stupidly fast read/write speeds, and this isn't going to see any benefit from RAID. RAIDing SSDs looks great in benchmarks but that's about all it's good for in a home-use scenario. Also, at the moment RAID doesn't allow TRIM commands through to the SSD so performance over time will suffer. Cheers, Mike
