Disabling faux roads

Featured Replies

Does anyone know whether I can disable faux roads in fs2004? I have installed VFR Terrain and FScene and now find most of the faux doubled up with more accurate and realistic roads presumably from one of my add-ons.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

As far as I understand, the faux roads are embedded into terrain textures. I suppose you may try using Silver Wings or Golden Wings terrain textures (judging by the description), but I'm not sure about that. If you have Ground Environment (Std or Pro)... I don't know if there is a way to do so :(

Dear Luis

Thank you very much for your reply. I thought of Golden Wings but was a bit doubtful...I only really wanted to get rid of the roads. I may look at buying GE Pro.

Gracias.

TT

There are 2 types of roads in FS9.

One is the roads that are painted on the ground textures and the only way to get rid of them is to use different textures or edit the existing ones.

The second type of roads are vector objects and those can be removed.

In the FS9 scenery folders are many files that have a filename consisting of 2 letters, 9, 4 numbers,0.bgl ie:RD935760.bgl

Files that begin with RD generate the vector roads, and files beginning with RR generate vector railroads.

You can rename those files by changing the extension and FS will not use them.

I add the extension .zzz (ex.-RD935760.bgl.zzz) to files I want to disable so they will all be at the end of the list if I need to find them later.

This might sound like a large task, but with creative use of the Windows Explorer search function you could remove roads from the world in a few minutes.

Joe

I'm not sure about GE Pro, because I understand it has also the faux roads, and thus, there would be nothing to do without losing your investment.
