July 13, 201213 yr Say I wanted to start creating my own airport scenery. -starting with the ground tiles- 1. I would take screenshots on google earth 2. Very close topdown screenshots- so when I put them all together its very high resolution from above and at a close distance as well. 3. Put all the screenshots together of the airport and make one big big topdown picture. (very time consuming, but seems worth the while) This seems like I could make a very high quality airport doing it this way. but I just need some VERY detailed instructions on how I would put this into FSX and so it would overlap the airport and the runway would line up with the one underneith. Is this possible? I really want to do this with my local airport KLGB and put in into the file library when finished. Maybe someone can help me develop this and tell me what I need to get started. And someone can maybe help with the 3D building models. I dont know, it seems like a great idea. Jerad Burns
July 13, 201213 yr For your own use it could probably be done but be aware of the copyright issues you would face if you used Google Images and published them as part of your work. Jon ------- Microsoft Flight Sim MVP Airport Design Editor FSDeveloper.com
July 13, 201213 yr Author For your own use it could probably be done but be aware of the copyright issues you would face if you used Google Images and published them as part of your work. yeah I realize that, But I wouldnt be selling anything. It would be a completely free thing just for the fun of it. Im more concerned of how to go about doing it and how I would get it to work with fsx. I would cut around the writing on the images also. July 13, 201213 yr I don't want to get into any legal discussion because I am definitely not a lawyer and arm chair lawyering on these topics can become heated and fractious. My best advice is to read the terms and conditions for licensing the use of Google Images. Also if you were to cut around the writing then you certainly would be getting into very sticky ground indeed. I think there is free imagery available so for a start I would look for some that is free to use. The usually way folks go about photo real scenery is to use something like GMax or perhaps FSDS. These are 3D design tools and have a failt steep learning curve. As I recall SBuilderX can also handle photo real scenery but not the 3D design part of it. July 14, 201213 yr Perhaps this is what you want: Make photo-real ground textures in Flight Simulator X available in the Avsim library http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxsd&DLID=140539 Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
July 16, 201213 yr Note that the USGS has high resolution (mostly 1 foot) for much of the US for download (they don't try to change the colors like Google does but probably not much of an issiue in So Cal). USGS data is going to be in a project like transvers mercator or state plane coordinate system that has to be converted in GIS software to geographic/WGS-84 before you can use resample on it. What I would suggest is using resample to create 1m resolution ground tile (ADE scenery will sit "on top" of this), and then ModelConvertorX to create ground tiles that can overlay the ADE runways/taxiways. scott s. .
