hi,

 

i just purchased the Pacific Fjords region and i love it already after my first exploration flight.

 

it seems that a sectional chart would help alot to find my way around. the question is, which of the canadian VFR charts is needed to cover the area? do i need only one chart or more than one? i have not found out which chart covers which exact region.

 

is anyone using real sectional to fly in the Pacific Fjords area? if so, which ones(s)?

I use a program called Plan-G. Its not quite as complete as a VFR sectional, but will give you most of what you need. It uses google maps and you can connect it to FS to see where you are. You'll be able to use the terrain view and navigate your way around mountains. You can also overlay the ORBX FTX map on top so you can see the coverage area, airports and points of interest. A really helpful tool for exploring ORBX.

If you fly the bush strips, a sectional might be less useful, in a way, than a detailed relief map. When I fly the Orbx regions, I use Google Maps in relief mode on a second display (tablet). Free and very useful to know where you are and what to expect.

Mostly you need a map that provides elevations as most of the region is bush flying. Plan G will give you elevations, your GPS in terrain mode also.

 

 

I guess the sectional can be helpful on the bigger airports like Smithers, Terrace, Prince Rupert. But I just us FS Commander and free canadian airport charts.

The VFR NAV charts are listed here. It looks to me that KITIMAT would cover most of the area, however the Pacific Fjords area does extend inland some and you would need to get the PRINCE GEORGE as well to get the eastern side of Pacific Fjords.

thank you. i think i'll get the prince george and hopefully the western part is covered by the US sectional for Ketchikan that i can view on skyvector.com
