I'm sorry but I don't understand? Thats not a dc10. I believe that's a DC-6. There's a company in the area that uses them for cargo I think.

As for the DC-10, yes there are still some in service. FedEx has quite a big fleet of them- as well as MD-10s which are updated DC-10's so they have the same cockpit as the MD-11. Also World Airways still use them. Then there are a couple of airlines with smaller fleets of them.

Well am sorry for the bad info but on the news its amazing how they always say the planes model so wrong . The news team that took the picture said it was a DC- 10. So am sorry for the misunderstanding info i give out.

As it was reported on the news i don't think this plane was a cargo plane . I think it had passengers that is why everyone was like are these planes still in service , because on the news they were talking about the passengers inside like if it was a Commercial airliner. I really don't know because in the United States Virgin Islands they do have lots of short hop trip from one island to another . So this might be a passenger aircraft or i really don't know .

It's ok no worries.

Is that a CV-340? I wish we could see the nose better. It seems long. Does the 580 have a longer nose then the 340?

Doesn't look big enough to be a DC-6? The picture isnt the greatest angle.

I will see if i can find a better picture on the news site

Ok i can now confirm it is a cargo plane . For some reason on the news they said it was a passenger plane. It is not the first time the news get mix up with the aircraft models . I remember when that Jetblue A320 had to make an emergency landing in KLAX an on the news someone said a 737 is trying to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles International.

Oh ok thanks for the link. It must just be the angle of the shot that makes the nose look longer.

I agree they are quick to make reports. An it does make you wonder sometime if you are getting the right information or just some cover story for the newspaper or something .
