July 20, 201213 yr The train tunnel is missing from Whittier, this is a shame. Can't wait to check out the Honolulu pass bridge in AK. The pipeline...oh well. But anyway, I love this sim to pieces. I recommend googling pictures of wonder lake, and then going and doing it. Also, really fun to see the plane crashes, but look in skyvector.com at the vfr reporting point 100 miles east of Fairbanks. Its really a Liberator, but it says B52 with a magenta flag. I am gonna go check. If you are bored, plan for a few of these favorite places The Don Sheldon Amphitheater, Mountain house there? A low flight from fairbanks into Totatlinika or Gold king, pop in from a valley and try to stick it. You can stop at blair lakes on the way, that is the lake that had the dead moose in it on Alaska State Troopers. Go see if the Holgate glacier is calving Wonder if they put a strip at Ultima Thule Leave the gravel bar mission, fly east into the inlet and put that cub on the helipad, you have the wind. We put three on one helipad, almost... Can you get the famous Wonder Lake photo in your screenshot library? People nail the pinks off Allison Point in Valdez, even kids. Why? What is sleeping woman? does she look right? From what direction? Will her groom ever return? Does the victor airway from Fairbanks to Talkeetna really need to be flown over 10k? Why? Hint, answer around Summit. What is so special about Eagle Summit? Why is there a 9k avoid area over the island southeast of walrus islands? What happens on the little finger sticking off the north end of it in real life? Poker flats, what is the worst that could happen? Wonder how to hunt the porcupine herd? how bad could Atigun Pass be? What goes on at Toolik lake? Do polar bears really drown because there isn't enough polar ice bridging to the shore? What time of year? Solve global warming for yourself. How hard could chilkoot pass possibly have been, and for who? Do all the people in Whittier really live in one big government hotel with a cracked foundation? Is it there? Portage glacier? The Into The Wild bus is really close to something that is important to pilots, but can't be seen with the eye. Should I land at Kantishna, is Bold similar in some way? Dave O flies people out of Fairbanks to East twin lakes and Minchumina with a Maule for fishing trips. And for a wild card, what is that cool waterfall the helicopter lands at in Jurrasic Park, and where is it? If you benefit from this, lemme know on here, I will do some more. Kick that google into gear, get excited, and check it out. The flight planner in skyvector is so easy to use, why not fly in Heavy wx all the time, there are vors everywhere
July 20, 201213 yr Love it! In the abscence of proper missions from on high, this kind of stuff, like the airport of the day over on Steam is what makes this game better, and the community greater Nice one, thanks (I do fly in nasty weather pretty much all of the time already :Big Grin: it's what flying AK is about for me) JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
July 20, 201213 yr Great advice MiteyMT. No need to sit around waiting for something to happen. Make something happen!
July 20, 201213 yr I can cross Wonder lake off my list. Wonder Lake, Alaska Wonder Lake, AK in Flight.
July 21, 201213 yr Really cool these side-by-side pictures, Mikrco! Keep us updated when you get more!
July 21, 201213 yr Another nice comparison. I actually find these Flight vs. The Real World more interesting than the Flight vs. FSX or whatever we have gotten in the past. Great job on matching the perspectives.
July 21, 201213 yr That is really good terrain, excellent depiction of the real thing. Thanks for the pictures. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
July 21, 201213 yr Now there's a great example of the mesh limitations in Flight. The upthrust part of that formation as well as the cleft in it are simply too narrow to be accurately reflected in the resolution of the topography data.
