Fs Global Ultimate installation time

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

just bought FS Global Ultimate - The Americas and running now the installation.

The installation time is quite weird indeed, it is taking more than 1 and a half hour (I have a SSD Samsung 830). Due to my config it should take less time than the actual (not only a SSD but a I5 2500K @ 4,2Ghz as well).

In some forums I have read of users with an installation time of 40 minutes. The AVSIM review of this product also states a time of about 45 minutes, how could it be possible?

What do you think about?

Thanks. bye.

I read somewhere that the installation of FS Global ultimate Europe/Africa (5DVD / 40GB) takes three hours or longer.

Your DVD drive is your limiting factor unpon install. It will take some time.

Last night the installation time was 3 hours and 45 minutes. :o

I cannot understand how it is possible that the installation time of the FS Global Ultimate Europe & Africa (5 DVDs), as reported by the AVSIM reviewer in her review, took only 30 minutes.

Next time I'll save of 6DVD in another hard disk drive and then launch the installation process from there. It should take maybe 1/5 of the time I spent yesterday.

Any other comments from users who installed this add-on? Bye.

Hello,

On the latest part of the series (Asia) there is an alternative installmethod which shortens the time considerably.

In the doc's they claim that the same method can be used on the first two volumes as well.

I don't know for sure that that claim is true or not and where you can find that alternative method.

Maybe you could check their website.

PS I used it when installing the last volume and it did reduce the time by more than 50%

Hello Luc,

I took a look yesterday at their website and read about an installation file which is 4x faster, but I could not understand where/how to get it and if it is available for all their products. The support page speaks only about some issues in the installer rollback, nothing to do with the installation time reduction.

Not having the Ultimate Asia / Oceania, could you tell me what the user manual states about that alternative method?

Strange indeed. This review (in Dutch) specifically mentioned an installation time of 3 hours minimum for FS Global Ult. Europe & Afrika.

NEW: There is an option for a faster installer available. If our

setup dedects system requirements are met, you will be prompted

for this option. However, this installer is available in

english language only, but it will be considerably faster.

Just follow the instructions on the screen.

You can use this installer for other FS Global installations as

well. It works will the complete FS Global Ultimate series and

FS Global 2010. You can find it on DVD 1 at the folder \FSX.

For installing older FS Global versions in Prepar3D, use the

installer on DVD 1 at the folder Prepar3D.

This is a small part of the readme file on disk I of the third part of the series (Asia-Oceania).

Indeed, when firing up the installation, it asks if it has to use the 'faster' method which I did but I can't

figure out what it does differently. I also used it only once and didn't try this method on the first two volumes because they were already installed on my pc and I haven't reinstalled fsx since then.

Maybe you could contact the developer about it.

Luc, many thanks. I'll give a try to see in the DVD 1 if there is this new faster installer. At the moment, no option choice is prompted to start a faster installation,m probably because FS Ultimate Global The Americas was the first product of the pipeline. I don't know.

Bye.

Rick,

The option is indeed on the last installment of the series only. (asia & oceania)

I have checked the website but I can't find more info ether.

Maybe I can give you more info in the course of next week. It looks like I will have to reinstall fsx and the three volumes will be part of it.
