July 22, 201213 yr As I am quite often away from my FS PC I often view the forums from my iPad. However the last week is starting to get infuriating for me. I am constantly getting asked to get the forum app to view the forums. 1. I am quite happy viewing the forums in Safari. 2. I don't want to pay €1.99 or whatever it is to view the forum when I can view it free in Safari. Is this an Avsim thing, or the PHP (?) asking me to buy this app? I view other forums and other sites in Safari and am asked probably once a month. Viewing the Avsim forum it is every time I open a page or topic. Regards. Tom Cunningham. July 22, 201213 yr Same here. I'm finding the iPad and iPhone Avsim defaults to the desktop version now, too. And I often need to click links twice. I feel like there's some pushing from Avsim for us to pay for the app. If you make a website better through an app, fine. If you make it worse to push people, not good, cool. Matt Cee
July 23, 201213 yr To add, the board obviously knows I'm on an mobile device (since it's pushing the app) yet it still defaults to the desktop version now. Please fix this. :) Matt Cee
July 24, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the reply Matt, thought I was going this alone. Little update from my side. Today is the first chance I have time to actually sit down to reply. Little frustrated that no official reply from Avsim has been made, but as it is only a couple of days, I won't harp on it too much. Although something official either would be nice. Ether someone has seen my initial reply and changed settings, or the request to buy the app runs out over time, but I ain't seeing it so far today. As most of my time here is split almost 50-50 between the PMDG ans Screenshots forums, those were the most notable to me. Both, for now (hopefully forever) are app purchase request free. I know that Avsim has run into problems here and there since the update recently, and am glad I can use my iPad again here, hopefully Ll these little issues are getting fixed one by one. Regards. July 26, 201213 yr Guys, This has nothing to do with AVSIM trying to sell a product. Not sure how that would benefit us when that product is made by someone else. I too am an iPad user and noticed this bug. I noticed mine very recently and am still searching for a way to turn it off. Also, regarding a mobile skin, we disabled it as it was super buggy. July 26, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the reply Chase. This has nothing to do with AVSIM trying to sell a product. Not sure how that would benefit us when that product is made by someone else. Sceptic in me says it might not directly benefit Avsim, but may well benefit in regards to the forum software provider or possible new implementation of whatever new forums here. If its not Avsim, could it be the forum software provider? Is it something to be discussed with them? I too am an iPad user and noticed this bug. I noticed mine very recently and am still searching for a way to turn it off. Are you still seeing it now or has it stopped since the mobile skin has been turned off? I haven't seen it with 3 days now, so something has been changed either at Avsim or the forum software end. I have made no changes here so it is/was nothing on my side. Regards. Tom Cunningham. July 26, 201213 yr I'm not seeing it anymore now. I was advised by our master forum mechanic, Tom Allensworth, the pop up is disabled now. July 26, 201213 yr If you don't like the way Safari mobile displays websites, you have to use something else or live with it. Just get Tapatalk, $2 isn't exactly a lot of money...
July 26, 201213 yr Author I'm not seeing it anymore now. I was advised by our master forum mechanic, Tom Allensworth, the pop up is disabled now. Good news, thanks Chase. If you don't like the way Safari mobile displays websites, you have to use something else or live with it. Just get Tapatalk, $2 isn't exactly a lot of money... Where, in anything I posted, did I say I didn't like the way Safari displays? Please show me as I don't see it above. Please read what I posted before commenting on what you think I said. Chase and Matt understood what I wrote, There was a pop up coming up every time I opened a page, looks now as it was nothing to do with Safari, I did say I am more than happy with Safari as it is, and have no intention paying for something I don't want when the Safari pages worked fine for me. Re Tapatalk, I have it for other forums I use that require it. I am quite happy with it for those, but Avsim doesn't need it so I won't be using it here. This pop up btw has nothing to do with Tapatalk, as far as I can tell, no mention was ever made in that app re Tapatalk. Regards. Tom Cunningham. July 26, 201213 yr Every forum I see that's Tapatalk compatible has that feature enabled by default on Apple devices. Both my wife and I have iphones and she has an ipad, I see the pop-up all time time advising me to get Tapatalk - the message you're seeing about getting the forum app to view forums IS TAPATALK. Sounds like Tom was able to turn the feature off so that's good.
July 26, 201213 yr Author the message you're seeing about getting the forum app to view forums IS TAPATALK. No it is not, the app that was being suggested is "Forum Runner - vBulletin" by End of Time Studious. I have Tapatalk and know what it looks like, surely you can imagine I know the difference when I was being bombarded with the blasted thing? Regards. Tom Cunningham. Sorry, the only one I've ever seen is advertised is Tapatalk. Every time I visit a forum through Safari on my iphone or my wife's ipad and see that pop-up, it's always Tapatalk.
July 28, 201213 yr The mobile version is buggy, but it's better than the desktop most of the time on the iPhone. Thanks for disabling the popup. Matt Cee
July 28, 201213 yr The popup is back again for me and keeps coming up every AVSIM subforum click I do. Please disable it, very frustrating to keep having to hit that cancel button each time I navigate. Update: 5 minutes later it seems like it has stopped popping up, thanks if someone did something, if not then it must be some random frustrating thing. --John near KPAE
