July 24, 201213 yr Greetings; I have quick question. I would check myself but as the sim is in construction this is not possible. With the NGX is it possible for the pilot to override any auto throttle logic that maybe operational by moving the throttle levers ? Thanks, WilloW WilloW (YMHB) flaps2approach.comB737-800 simulator
July 24, 201213 yr You can enable that setting in the cdu but I would advise against it unless you have throotles with servos that actually move when the auto throttle moves the levers. I keep mine in "override only in arm/hold modes" which enables me to perform an RTO by just pulling the levers back and still not having my auto throttle disengage in climb/cruise whenever I accidentally touch my joystick. July 24, 201213 yr Author OK thanks Serbia! Therefore, if enabled in the CDU, throttle movement will override all auto throttle logic - or just some ? Obviously if N1 is showing on FMA then throttle override is not possible without disconnecting N1. Do you know if this is the same for the NG too? July 24, 201213 yr You can also pull the throttles back with the mouse at anytime with A/T on. I can't remember the exact logic but it wont disconnect the A./T unless you do it excessively. I have done it on a couple of occasions where A/T would have trouble maintaining speed when winds were shifting and flaps down, speed was getting high and I didn't want auto flap relief to engage. July 26, 201213 yr A/T cannot be disengaged by overriding TLs. In ARM or HOLD modes after overriding throttles will stay on angle that you have set. In other modes A/T would take control over TLs after pilot releases them. Obviously if N1 is showing on FMA then throttle override is not possible without disconnecting N1. That's interesting. Have searched through the FCOM and didn't find that. Rostyslav S Wanna fly 737NGX with turbulence?
July 26, 201213 yr Commercial Member In the real aircraft you can always override them - the A/T servos will fight you obviously and try to move back to the proper setting if the A/T is in a mode that actively commands their position, but there's nothing that locks them to what the servos are commanding or anything like that. Any time the mode goes to HOLD or ARM the servos are disconnected and you have full control - a lot of pilots will actually slightly modulate the thrust manually in a VNAV PTH descent for instance to help it stay on path when the wind is different than what was forecasted etc. The closest analog to the real life mode in the NGX FMC for people without hardware servos is "IN HOLD/ARM MODE ONLY" - "ALWAYS" is what you'd use if you actually had hardware servos though. "NEVER" is just something for people who don't want the risk of interfering with the A/T due to a jittery throttle axis etc. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
July 26, 201213 yr Author Thanks Ryan for the detailed and informative response. I appreciate your time in replying to what can be a complicated issue. Cheers, WilloW WilloW (YMHB) flaps2approach.comB737-800 simulator
July 26, 201213 yr In my case I use the FMC option "NEVER", but still if I move one of my TLs the N1 goes down or up separately from the other engine and you can imagine what happens if eng1 is 50% and eng2 is 92% :). The cotrols are set directly from FSX.
