July 26, 201213 yr I have been out of the technology loop for several years and am looking to replace my FSX computer with a new one. Can anyone recommend a computer that will run FSX with decent fps (say mid 20's/30's) with some of the more advanced add-on's for under $1500 USD? Would this computer be a good selection? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3170712&CatId=1886 Any suggestions...recommendations of what to look for? I appreciate any advice. Thanks, John
July 26, 201213 yr Do not use a Radeon for FSX, the drivers are not written for it and you will have poor performance in bad weather. Also, building a PC is not difficult, and you can get *exactly* the parts you want while saving money.
July 27, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the info. Would this be a better selection with the Nvidia video card...is a 2GB card enough? How does the processor stack up against FSX? http://www.tigerdire...0713&CatId=1886 Thanks again, John
July 27, 201213 yr I've heard 1.5MB is the max GPU memory FSX will take advantage of. It's because of the FSX code, which does not take full advantage of the GPU. July 27, 201213 yr UNTRUE! With my 3 monitor setup its maxes out at 1850 or so on VRAM. Manny, do you use AA? I'm finding with my 2560x1440 27" monitors I do not need it, that's a big consumer of VRAM when you're on multiple monitors with a single large resolution, as you and I are.
July 27, 201213 yr Manny, do you use AA? I' Not within FSX. I usually consume somewhere close to 1350 on my VRAM for the most part.. But I have seen it go up to 1850 once.. I can't recall where I was and what addons were acitivated. Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

July 27, 201213 yr What about Nvidia Inspector, do you have AA enabled there? Oh yeah..My settings are identicial to Word Not Allowed's post where it listed the nvidia inspector settings. What kind of performance (FPS) do you get with three monitors? Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 28, 201213 yr I wish I could answer that question but I'm still overclocking and tweaking. Hopefully get to the flying phase before too much longer. If you're running AA via Inspector, you're eating up a whole lot more VRAM.
July 28, 201213 yr If you're running AA via Inspector, you're eating up a whole lot more VRAM. What other option do I have? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 28, 201213 yr Any suggestions...recommendations of what to look for? Simple: look in my guide, which you should have read previously , and you'll get the general idea what you should get.
July 29, 201213 yr What other option do I have? If it's inhibiting performance you can turn it down or even off. As I said with the high resolution of my monitors, I don't even feel the need for AA.
