FS Kneeboard for iPad

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about purchasing it. Does anyone own one? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have FS Kneeboard 2 for Ipad and use it every flight.

Funny how some addons like this have the effect, that you really do not understand how you could fly without it before...

I have FS Kneeboard 2 and it's very helpful for finding charts and getting current METAR's. Here is a link to the Inquisitive Graphics subforum here at AVSIM-

I'm really close on pulling the trigger. Are the airport charts showing gate positions included? If so, is it only for US based airports?

Its great. Great support too.

Yes, the charts that are readily available through the interface directly are US only. However, the developer has cleverly included links in the program that will allow you to get charts from various sources the world over. You simply save them in dropbox and then FSKneeboard2 will allow you to find them just as easily as the US ones.

The US ones do include the airport diagram with taxiway and gate information.

To be clear, though, individual gates are not noted on the charts. They are the same charts you get if you go to skyvector.com or any other chart site. So if you're looking for A32, you'll see where the A terminal is but not number 32.

It's actually a pretty nice program and does some things better than the real-world flying charting apps like ForeFlight. I definitely recommend it if you enjoy plotting out your trips and planning accurate approaches, landing practices and take-off routes.

A chart like this perhaps? http://flightaware.com/resources/airport/ORD/APD/AIRPORT+DIAGRAM/pdf

Yes, those are the charts. I haven't been to an airport that gives you gates like ORD does, so it's on an airport basis.

Most airports are like this:

I just didn't want you thinking they added any information to the charts.

I bought it thinking it would be my go to app for flight simming, but I have all the manuals/checklists I need in iBooks and leave skyvector.com open in Safari, opening new tabs as necessary for individual airports. To be fair though, i only fly GA in the ORBX NA areas in a Katana so i'm usually not switching between charts very often and i'm too lazy to write my own checklists in the app.

Yeah, I don't use the checklist. For VFR I use the VFR charts since I find scrolling the charts in SkyVector via iPad's Safari can get a little wonky. And switching to Airport charts is much easier and if you're going to pay attention to all the minimums and notices in the AFD like real-life then it's definitely nice having those preset in the tabs. But yes, you're basically getting an iPadified SkyVector plus some nifty weather charts and a checklist feature.

I can't do a flight without it! This app is AWESOME!

I only have the first version though.
