Third party AI Traffic?

Featured Replies

Couple of years ago, there was a package available on the Internet which many people raved as being the best AI package available due to the great models and great performance. I believe it was made by some Koreans.

Fast forward to today... What is the best AI Traffic addon for FSX in terms of performance? I rather skimp a bit on the visuals of the models in order to have models that do not tax the system to the point where you prefer to have no AI Traffic at all.

Any suggestions? What is everyone using nowadays?

I'm using MyTraffic 5.4, and I had its predecessor installed on my old system, and I've never really had any performance issues with it, never maxed the sliders, though, but I always have the traffic settings at about 30-40%. Plus you get military traffic and some really unusual aircraft, especially in former Soviet Republics.

Also tried Ultimate Traffic 2, but that killed my frame rates ( got something like 0.7 to 2 FPS at some minor airports on my old system, and I couldn't even load the major ones, sometimes). UT's advantage is, that it's easier to update the flight plans to match current RW plans. UT2-Avsim Review

Another (freeware) option is WOAI, combined with ProjectAI (now FlightSimmer) and Military AI Works, which gives you the opportunity to install airlines of the regions you fly in. The disadvantages of tht solution are the rather long installation and the fact that you'll either have to convert these flight plans to the FSX format or you won't have car and boat traffic as well as no other custom AI traffic that came with any add-on (e.g. ORBX)

Hope, I've been helpful

I agree with Flo, if you want a lot of hassle then get yourself WOAI, if you want to simply install and fly then something like My Traffic X would be a good move. I can't obviously comment on other products, as I have only experience with My Traffic X Pro and have been very happy with it. As for quantity of AI, I find running at 25% or 30% AI is fine. This is something you can experiment with anyway.

UT2 is my favorite and you can adjust the percentage of traffic and number of aircraft your want to see.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess it all boils down to UT2 and MyTraffic X. I will give both a try and see which one I like the most. Thanks again.

Tell you what Efrain, if you do a good comparison review between the two addons, perhaps you could post your findings, I'm sure many guys would appreicate an objective comparison between the two progs.

I find the assignable hotkeys in UT2 to adjust traffic % or stop it completely in realtime quite useful, much more refined gui, and found a less fps hit than mtx on my particular system with similar slider levels. My only gripe are vanishing aircraft at times, might switch back to mtx for that reason alone. Not sure what that is all about, but one minute a Cessna 172 is taxiing for takeoff, then the it simply vanishes...lol.
