Dash 8?

Featured Replies

In 2010 the PMDG announce the devolepment of Dash 8 for FSX in the follow video:

What I wonder is: Where will launch the Dash 8?

And...if so, for when it will be a preview?

Sorry for my bad english...

Regards,

Dragazo

It was mentioned that the Dash 8 was supposed to be a "lite" product (like the J41) that some of the dev team work on while in between the main projects so they always have something to do, however it became apparent that the Dash 8 is too complex for this and to make it work needs more time and effort put on it, so as far as I am aware the Dash 8 is on hold indefinitely.

This question gets asked almost once a week.

It's still planned, no ETA.

Come on people, use the search function.

I must admit, I ferverently hope they do the Dash 8. But I also like their philosophy on all the aircraft they do, which (if I may paraphrase), "Do it right, or don't do it at all". So while I am anxious for this, I'd rather wait and let them do it justice than have them do it half baked. Their other airplanes prove that this is the best approach, because they sit firmly in the #1 spot among developers as a result. You don't get there by accident.

So, "whenever" guys. As long as you do it, it doesn't matter when or how long it takes.

Naww, wouldn't work :P . Someone would just start going, " - 7+1" :P

Seriously though, any publicity is good for something as a rule. The only part I don't understand is why people keep asking "when", when there is no developer in the FSX world (that I know of) who ever gives a definitive answer. That's fair, and it's understandable, so why keep asking? In this case, I think the OP was simply wondering if it was still alive and I think that's a fair question (the search function notwithstanding, but that isn't always too easy or productive if English isn't your first language). I've been watching the postings from a distance every now and then just to see what was happening, and by others raising the question, means I was able to keep abreast of things without having to post myself (my post here is simply stating that I support both the project and the decision to wait until the proper resources can be put towards the project). It lets people know it's alive so for every one posting, a lot of people get updated. Now someone asking every week is excessive I will admit, but it only takes a second for the moderator to confirm that, "Yup, it's alive, but in limbo until people are freed up to do it." Now, I also wonder if maybe there is a post pinned somewhere that gives that info already (at a glance, not on page 423 ^_^ )? I haven't noticed it, but maybe there is. If not, that might help, then lock it with the moderator updating it every month or two. After all, the developers should feel pleased that people are interested, and encouraged to know that they could make quite a few sales off it (that is what they are in business for, is it not?), so a gentle word every now and then maybe isn't such a bad thing B) .

Ohhh, you aren't kidding!!! That would be truly spectacular! You don't see a lot of them around now, but I have seem them "do their thing" and it's very impressive. I'm afraid there wouldn't be enough interest generally though to justify the effort PMDG would have to put into it. But it sure would be fun just the same :).

Anyone tell me where i can download Majestic software dash8 pls

This is PMDG's forum so I don't want to talk about another developer's plane too much, but the original model for the current version that's out was for FS2002. It's been modified and ported over to eventually work in FSX and it's fairly good. But they are working on a true FSX version which would be the better route to go (by far!). However, I've been following the development of this since (originally) 2005. Reportedly it went into beta in March, 2011. Not much on it since. This is one machine that by the time it's done, we'll all have croaked from old age, MS will have reactivated the ACES team and FSXIX will have just been released, and they'll be starting all over again. It is a truly spectacular aircraft and as someone who has worked on RL Dash 8 equipment, I can tell you it's more advanced than anything else out there. BUT, that said, I am not convinced at this point that they could do a better job than PMDG, and I'm pretty sure PMDG would have theirs out sooner at the rate they are going. Don't get me wrong - Fanda (Olesky <-- and I'm probably destroying his name - sorry about that!) is among the very best there is. It's just if people are complaining that PMDG is too slow, well he makes PMDG look like greased lightning by comparison.

OK, enough from me. As I say, this is a PMDG forum. Oh, and yes, it very much is payware. It's fairly inexpensive now for the reasons mentioned above.

BeaverDriver,

A few things should be clarified here.......

The MJC Dash 8Q4 is not in Beta, it is still in Alpha (never has it been stated that beta has begun), but at the rate that development is progressing it appears that beta testing may commence soon (a timeline has not been given).

PMDG is in a class of their own, certainly one of the best in the industry (with the Dash 8 being my office, I too am looking forward to their Dash 8). That being said, PMDG also has a "team" of developers who are able to work on multiple phases of any given project simultaneously, obviously yielding a quicker release time (plus/minus road blocks that projects present from time to time). Bear in mind that "Oleksiy and Samdim Designs" (aircraft model), along with the folks involved in the Alpha testing phase have been doing an astounding job thus far. If one were to check the Majestic forums you would be able to see periodic updates by members of the team from time to time, granted it is not as active a forum as this one, but there is is still info to be gotten if need be. Oleksiy will, and has been giving periodic updates when it is necessary to do so.

The Majestic philosophy is not about doing a job better than another developer/company, but more so to create a product that is as realistic as possible with the resources that are available within the limitations of the platform upon which it is being created.

It would be awesome to have all variants of the Dash 8 family on the FSX platform, 100/200/300/400. Having a 100/200 with both EFIS and electro-magnetical gauges would really be awesome, and possibly a intergrated KNS 660 instead of the FMS. There are so many possible variant options/configurations. PMDG's configuration tool, being able to change options on the fly would make for a seamless transition for a specific model.

This is one machine that by the time it's done, we'll all have croaked from old age, MS will have reactivated the ACES team and FSXIX will have just been released, and they'll be starting all over again.

The initial Q400 project was done as a FNTP simulator used by an airline for training, it was from this stage onwards that the FSX project then began. I am sure Majestic will do their best to provide a product that meets the expectations (and more) of most Dash 8 enthusiasts.

However I do agree that this topic be discussed in the AVSIM general forums or over at Majestic's forum where all the necessary details can be acquired.

Tabs, I apologize for stepping on any toes (feel free to remove if necessary).
