July 28, 201213 yr Hi X-Simmers, I recently made the switch from FSX to X Plane 10! I purchased X Plane 10 - North America for flight training purposes but I've noticed that airports are not displaying buildings/gates and taxi way signs. Suggestions? In the settings menu I have airport scenery set to "high". Thanks, - S
July 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member If you have the scenery in FSX, your best bet might be to do an FSX to X Plane conversion. Top quality scenery for X Plane has only just started coming out a few months ago.
July 28, 201213 yr Author Hmm .. does that mean that X Plane 10 - North America doesn't come with "complete" scenery? Or, I have to buy the Global version to get all the eye candy details and realism?

X-Plane has accurate roads, railways, coastlines and polygon rivers and lakes from OpenStreetMap. X-Plane features also very nice terrain mesh and landclass for the whole world. http://developer.x-p...al-scenery-use/ http://developer.x-p...w-can-you-help/ http://developer.x-p...bug-apparently/ You'll find more about this plausible world and cities here: http://www.x-plane.c...e-is-plausible/ http://developer.x-p...lan-for-cities/ http://www.osm2xp.com/ If taxiways, ramps, or runways are false, you can help here: http://data.x-plane.com/ But if you only miss airport buildings, it's always possible to install add-ons or create your own airport: http://forums.x-plan...showtopic=30718 http://xpfr.org/?bod...es&cover=france http://www.openscene...g-opensceneryx/ http://forums.x-plan...showtopic=35790 http://wiki.x-plane....irport_Creation http://wiki.x-plane....t_Customization Happy flying. July 28, 201213 yr Author This answers a lot of questions. Thanks! Coming from the Microsoft FS world, things are different. But so far I love X Plane. I could do without the airport buildings. The realism is the most important part :) Cheers!
July 28, 201213 yr LR didn't have access to accurate building structures data at airports and didn't use any random algorithms to place anything at all, but using WED (the Wold EDitor) tool, you can add and place buildings and taxiways. WED 1.2 is supposed to be the start where anything you create can be uploaded to LR, where they check it for compatibility with other additions to the user-developed data and then include those for download by users. That is so far just theory and have yet to see it working as they have laid out, but that is the overall agenda, but the timeline has been extended by other bug squashing going on with the new joystick code and other issues for 10.10. My guess is once all these issues are calmed, work will resume on getting this system up and functional so we can get busy populating the world over with accurate airports and buildings at those airports. July 29, 201213 yr I just found this today: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=43645#entry481942 Rob Otto

August 2, 201213 yr X-Plane has accurate roads, railways, coastlines and polygon rivers and lakes from OpenStreetMap. X-Plane features also very nice terrain mesh and landclass for the whole world. I read all that and that was one of the reasons I decided to try x-plane. So far what I've read is nothing like what I see. Here's what the scenery looks like in my 10.5 beta version https://photos-6.dro...e=1280x960,32bf https://photos-1.dro...e=1280x960,32bf ooops, tiny pictures I use the Southern tip of new jersey for reference because I know that area like the back of my hand. X-plane just doesn't cut it. Now, all the goodies that I saw in the demo are missing. I have to find out why. I like to fly GA and I enjoy knowing where I am by just looking for landmarks. I can't do that in x-plane so I just keep reading and reading and.. Let's just say right now I get more enjoyment out of fsx visually and more satisfaction out of the aircraft in x-plane. wouldn't the airport buildings be apart of the realism you like? YEP a very big part as far as I'm concerned. Rob Otto
