ILS Installation FS9

Featured Replies

Hi. Does anyone have any advise on resources, software or tutorials to install or build an ILS for an airport that does not have one. Thanks,Ed

That will not be realistic since the airport does NOT have an ILS system.

Anyway you can always use AFCAD, ADE or AFX to edit navigational aids.

I use Airport Design Editor - ADE. In reference to what Rafal shared, I agree, unrealistic. Unless the airport in question has added a ILS system since FS9 was released. That said, if you want the ILS added for your own use ADE will allow you to open the airport, add the ILS and it can create a basic approach for it for you. If the airport you wish to add the ILS to has one in real life then their will be approach data available that will allow you to produce a much more detailed and accurate approach. If the airport is in the continental US you can look it up at AirNav.com and find all the details you will need.

I recommend ADE9X for inserting an ILS.

AFCAD inserted ILS's will be seen by the user aircraft but not by ai aircraft. It may not show up in the FS map data either. ADE will insert a default instrument approach path for AI to follow that you can also modify if you wish. In FS9 there are still restrictions in deleting or changing existing ILS identification with any application. I addition, some afd type files combine scenery elements that AFCAD can strip out.

ADE, its manuals, and tutorials can be downloaded from here:

The best way to use ADE is to let it create a project file and do your edits saving the project. This makes it easier to make corrections and keeps some items private to ADE to perform its compile, the second step to get the bgl. For ADE you can open a default airport or afcad file from an add-on to make your changes. If the afcad type file has the communication frequencies in it you are all set. If not you can add them back in. When complete save the project and then compile it to a bgl. It is easy and under the file menu.

In the real world some airports have added ILS or localizer or other navaids since the stock or some add-ons have been released so it is nice to have that capability.

As far as the user interface in ADE for the airport view the tools are similar to AFCAD221. ILSs are placed with the navaids list I believe and then can be dragged from the default position if needed.

I agree with the previous responders that if the current day scenery does not have an ILS or LOC it should not be added. Just polish up your manual landing skills :)

an advantage of ADE over AFCAD for this is that ADE can access the default airport objects scenery library, and you can place the localizer antenna, ils transmitter shack, and glideslope antenna/transmitter objects to provide some realism.

Thanks Gentlemen. Appreciate the help. I'm hoping to try to install an ILS for Belize City, Philip Goldson International Rwy 07. It was not available when FS9 came out but has been in service prior to FSX. I suspect it was just missed by the developers. Thanks. Ed
