July 28, 201213 yr Today, FSX can't start at all. I get the music (!), but no access to the home page of FSX. Yesterday I was flying a 747 PMDG without any problem and I left normally the program. This morning, after the problem had appeared, I've defragmented my HDD, tried the "fs_registry_repair.exe" file, but without any amelioration. My config : Core I7 930 2.8 Ghz, Asustek P6T deluxe, Nvidia GTX470, 6Mo memory DDR3, with W7 64bits, FSX + SP1 +SP2, and a lot of attached programs (My TrafficX, AS2012, Radar contact, Flightsim Commander, GSX), and many planes with all PMDG, level-d, wilco…, and many airports sceneries, so it would not be cool to uninstall and reinstall everything ! Has anyone an idea about my problem Thanks a lot for any help Pierre - LFRS
July 28, 201213 yr Have you tried a system restore? July 28, 201213 yr One thing you can try is to delete your CFG and then start FSX up and see if letting FSX build a new CFG fixes it. Jim Wenham
July 28, 201213 yr Author What do you mean by "a system restore" ? If you mean restart the system, yes I did it a lot of times, if other, could you precise your idea ! Thanks Pierre PS : when, on my topic, I say "I can't access to the home page", that means that FSX has a fatal error during the music, and the program stops.
July 28, 201213 yr Author Hi jwenham, I've deleted the fsx.cfg, and for a while, I thought the problem was fixed because I've accessed to the home page, but when I leave this page for any flight, after having accepted all the .GAU files, FSX shut down with a fatal error (but no mention about the file concerned !)

Try it again but this time select the FREE FLIGHT window after it starts back up and then shut down FSX right away. Then restart FSX, it should put you straight into the FREE FLIGHT window. Then try to start a flight in the default trike. Jim Wenham
July 28, 201213 yr Author I can't access to FREE FLIGHT. FSX freezes when I select FREE FLIGHT, and I can do anything except waiting FSX shut down.
July 28, 201213 yr It could be a corrupt logbook. Find your Logbook.BIN file and rename it to Logbook_BAK.BIN Then fire up FSX and see if that helps. Jim Wenham
July 28, 201213 yr As I mentioned, a system restore. It will effectively restore your system to an earlier date, effectively restoring settings and things to how they were. This could work, not always, but it would without doubt be the very first thing I would try. Go to PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / SYSTEM TOOLS / SYSTEM RESTORE AND THEN CLICK ON 'RESTORE MY COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME (or similar) THEN CHOOSE A DATE PRIOR TO THE ISSUES YOU WERE HAVING. Don't worry, it's perfectly safe. But it will delete any settings you have made after the restore date, cfg settings, driver settings etc. You said FSX was fine the day before, so simply choose a date as close as possible to the day the problems arose. July 28, 201213 yr Author Hi Jim and Howard 1 - the change of logbook.bin doesn't produce any positive result 2 - I've tried to restore my system, but, unfortunately the only restoration point I can access is today, there no other point (perhaps because of the defragmentation?), so I can't restore another day Do you have something else ? Thanks Pierre
July 28, 201213 yr Pierre, you gave me the impression that you haven't done a restore before... if that is the case, can you go back into system restore and just read through things. Unless you have consciously prevented Windows from making a restore point, then you should find there are several restore points that have been actively created. What version of Windows are you running? July 28, 201213 yr The only other thing I think it could be is a corrupt DLL.XML file. I have no idea on how you would go about fixing that though but I think it is possible. Jim Wenham
July 28, 201213 yr Author Howard, you're right, I've never done a restore before, and I've never prevented Windows from making a restore point. In fact, sometimes I've restored some files from my Norton Ghost, but restoring all FSX I'm a bit afraid of the result. I use W7 64 bits Pierre

Now you need to access the system restore and along the bottom it says choose a different restore point click on that. Then choose a date that is closest to the the day of the problem, the day before, a few days, a week. BUT remember, it will delete certain things, not files or programs, but anything like drivers, cfg changes, in effect it will put back your system to that date. I've done it many times and it has got me out of trouble... if this does not work, then we will have to look elsewhere... July 28, 201213 yr The only other thing I think it could be is a corrupt DLL.XML file. I have no idea on how you would go about fixing that though but I think it is possible. There's a free dll.xml repair utility at Flight1 - http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library. I've deleted the fsx.cfg, and for a while, I thought the problem was fixed because I've accessed to the home page, but when I leave this page for any flight, after having accepted all the .GAU files, FSX shut down with a fatal error (but no mention about the file concerned !) I think Jim Wenham's suggestion has merit. You were almost successful deleting the fsx.cfg but got a crash only when you tried to click on Free Flight. Maybe a saved flight was accidentally deleted or the default startup. I would be interested to see the fatal crash event in the Event Viewer as that could possibly reveal the faulting module and the exact cause of the crash. The best way to check an event is to click on the Start button and then click on Help and Support in the Menu section. Once open, type Event Viewer in the search bar and you will have several options to understand what's in the event viewer and how to use it effectively after a crash or to fix something that has gone wrong with your computer. It records all of these events. It also shows you how to get to the Event Viewer. A system restore works occasionally and that's mainly if your registry got corrupted by something. But you applied the free registry fixer from Flight 1 and that should have corrected any FSX corruption. I have never been successful with a system restore so I shut it down. But it's worth a try. Another solution may be to do a repair of the PMDG 747. Just double-click on the 747.exe program and select repair (if no repair shows up, then click on reinstall). Don't forget to repair/reinstall any SP to the PMDG 747. Best regards, Jim
