By the different textures/shapes and also the terrain ND doesn't scan, it uses an internal database.

& its is not uncommon IRL for PF & PNF to display TERR OR WX - one on each ND dependant on company SOPs

you can see in the left corner that the WX mode is now displayed, so it's the weather radar, also like said above, there's differnet shapes and colors for the terrain mode. by saying different colors, they're not really different but every color has different meaning. hopeit halped.
