NGX + Trackir 5 - please help

Recommended Posts

So I decided to get trackir with the regular vector clip, it arrived today and I've been trying to set it up this afternoon. I have had some frustration though, as trackir seems to put the view right on the cockpit window. I have tried zooming out within fsx but still if I want to see the instruments I have to look down and it strains my eyes.

I'm not sat right up on the sensor, I'm sat a good 60cm away, and have it all aligned and centred properly, but when I look forward at centre I cans see out of the window and mastercaution/fire but as I said to see the instruments I have to look down and this is annoying especially on takeoff and landing.

Has anybody else using trackir with the ngx noticed this and can anybody help me fix it so just looking forward shows out the window and the instruments in view.

I've tried adjusting the camera etc but just can't seem to fix the problem.

Many thanks,

Danny

Just move your head up a little and press the trackir reset view button.

Your centered view should be lower.

Here is what I see with trackir

It's way too close to the window, and I can't see the instruments unless I look down and it strains my eyes a lot.

I want to be able to see like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v55DFfrBTrU

Just move your head up a little and press the trackir reset view button.

Your centered view should be lower.

Also what do you mean by the 'reset view' button?

Do you mean the centre button? I have set my joystick up buttons for centre, pause, precision and profile but haven't come across a reset view?

Look up and then reset view. Your head will be in a more comfortable position....Zoom out as well if you like.

Keep fooling around you'll get it. It does take some getting used to.

I've zoomed out within fsx using the - key, is there another way to zoom out?

Guys I can't get to grips with this at all.... what you're saying to do sort of works, but then if I turn my head I sink right down into my seat and end up as low as the control column... I can't keep at it for more than 5 minutes because my head starts to hurt :(

Maybe it's not gonna be for me, I was hoping it wouldn't require so much hassle to setup... best get the returns number from where I ordered it :(

Start FSX with TIR program started, but no clip on you, it must start with view centered correctly.

Is it your case?

If yes, all your problems are related to the track ir center position when you use the clip. It can be centered by using tir software keys. (maybe spacebar)

Or, you can move yourself in the cabin using default FSX key combination and mouse, once you centered it with your default position you have done.

But, You will find the problem again the next time you start the sim.

The use of EZDOK software will add more features including the possibility to save the view position.

I will give it a try and feedback when I get home. Is there a profile you would reccomend to use for fsx?

Each person has its own setting, it depends on your feeling.

Start to use it with the default profiles, then play with settings, you will find your favourite settings.

For example I removed most of the "null zone" when the view is centered, this adds movements at each head movement. I find it helpful, but, maybe you can have problems to leave it stable when clicking, then, more I rotate, more it moves. Just a personal setting, maybe good or not for others.

Make changes one axis at time, then, try to copy it to the others, one by one, and test them.

EZDOK will add also vibration, quick instrument closeup and other features that with TIR will give you a completely new experience!

Ensure that the IR unit is centered on top of your display and you are centered with your display.

Start TIr5 software and maximize the UI, you will see there is a key that centers your view. When I start the flight I press F9 to disable the TIr5, then go from there. If I need to look down I look up to the IR unit and recenter, then when I look back at the screen I am looking down.

There is a good profile that you can download from NaturalPoint called "SETH Flight"

I second what Robert said about SETHFLIGHT. Great profile. It took me ages to get used to trackir but persist with it mate, I haven't looked at 2d since!

Thanks for the help guys, I am still at work but finsh at 2 so I am going to spend the afternoon trying to get used to it and set it up right. I thought it was just a plug and play type thing, didn't realise it required a lot of setup and tweaking - that has been the only annoying thing, usually I don't get home until 7pm after work, and some nights 8:30pm, so the little time I have I just want to fly and not spend it trying to set things up, but like I said I will stick with it, I've also purchased ezdok as I heard ezdok and trackir work good together so I'm going to try and set it up when I get home.

I couldn't find their profiles page I think it has been removed. Here is a link to their forum, look at the 2nd post down:

http://forum.naturalpoint.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=51980&page=1

I would recommend that you read the entire thread, they mention increasing your field of view etc. but you have to set the TIr up properly, don't worry you will get the hang of it.
