Recommend Ram For FSX please.

Featured Replies

I have a Asus Maximus Extreme IV mobo, with I7 2600 K water cooling and am looking for some advice as to the best ram to get for my system as the old ram is knackered. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Wayne

i don't know about the best but I do know that I run FSX with about 20 addons, including a second monitor and I've have never seen 5 GB RAM being used at any one time. So I guess anything over, say, 6 GB RAM is uneccesary. I have 10 GB RAM.

Make sure its at least 1600 otherwise it will bottleneck your CPU. Otherwise , lower latency the better and always better to have a matched pair than one stick. :-)

Far as brands go, ideally Kingston. Otherwise Corsair is good too.

I use Corsair 8GB , corsair seem to be the most repuatable RAM manufacture , and Kingston are up there as well. Like the above post make sure the speed is 1600 because there a lot of RAM floating around with only 1333.

You can go up if you want, but best advice from me is get really good quality, low latency (CAS numbering) 1600 ram. Much cheaper than faster speeds and the lower latency will offer more boost than would the faster clock speed.

2133MHz with the lowest cas you can find will work, anything (very small gain) will help FSX, up to you to know how much you want to spend. If this is the board you have you can go up to 2800MHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131858 are you ready to overclock the hell out of your CPU....

1600MHz will be cheaper.

Sainsley beat me up to it.....I hate when that happen...lol

That's not true in general.

2133 CL9 is faster than 1600 CL7 for example. A few %, but faster nevertheless

I want to overclock but the bios for my board is not easy to understand for me anyway. and there are no videos online specific for this board unless anyone can point me in the right direction :)
