Reality XP unlimited pack questions

Featured Replies

For you guys with the unlimited pack, I've just purchased it and now have to configure it.

I plan for two GNS530s in the Lancair, Turbine Duke, and Basler BT-67.

Some questions for these multi-GNS panels:

1. TCAD - do you set this up on only one of the GNS? Or on both?

2. Crossfill - do I have to set it up to crossfill only from GNS1 to GNS2 etc? Or can I set it up enabled on both configs, so I can go either way?

3. I assume normally LinkVor=1 on GNS1, and LinkVor=2 on GNS2, same with radios?

4. Terrain warnings - do you disable the audio on one device so it's not duplicated? Or does it not matter?

5. AutoApproach - the config tool says this is to work around a bug in the trainer. I assume turning this on will make the autopilot switch to the ILS on the current frequency when it's intercepted. Is it best to have this turned on? What is done in the real world - does the pilot have to push the CDI button and switch the NAV to the VOR/LOC?

6. AutoApproach - any harm being turned on for both devices, or just one?

Mainly I want to know can I be flexible in how I use them, and choose which is my "main" device during the flight based upon how I use it, or do I need to decide in advance for the configs which one I want to give me terrain/warnings/etc, and which one is for controlling my autopilot..

Ideally I'd like to have all this stuff turned on for both devices, so I can be flexible, then I can setup missed approach in GNS2, approach in GNS1, and do stuff like that.

thanks all

I believe I can answer the first two:

1. TCAD - do you set this up on only one of the GNS? Or on both? = Recommended just one

2. Crossfill - do I have to set it up to crossfill only from GNS1 to GNS2 etc? Or can I set it up enabled on both configs, so I can go either way? = Set this for both.

3. Yes

4. One should be enough

5. I have it turned off and switch by hand - but try it and see what you like better.

Mostly, I fly RNAV approaches - where this does not come into play.

Thanks guys.

For the traffic - I assume it's just the display and there are no audio warnings is that right? I'm only getting audio for the terrain.

For no.5 I'd like to know if anyone knows what the real Garmin does when switching to ILS or LOC approaches, if it's automatic or manual. I'm curious because it mentions a bug in the trainer here, so I don't know if the workaround is real, or doing it by hand is real.

The Garmin GNS530 Pilot's Guide cover this...

It states that "the GNS can be set to automatically switch from GPS to VLOC...."

I take that to mean that it is an installation option.

The default in the real-world 530 is to switch to VLOC automatically when the ILS frequency is properly tuned and active, and within a certain distance from centerline and a certain distance outside the FAF. You can set this to be a manual operation, but the real-world default is auto.

The rxpgns.ini setting does exactly what it says it does - it works around FSX to allow this change, if set, to work properly in the sim.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Scott.

One other thing it does is switch the Autopilot into approach mode.

I wonder does this really happen as well? Maybe it depends on the autopilot and the setup
