"BUFFET ALERT"?

Recommended Posts

Interestingly, I'm on a flight from Panama to Newark and the flight path took me right ovewr Hurricane Isaac. When I was over the hurricane at 37000 the spped dropped from .78 to .7 mach and I got the buffet warning. Anybody know why?

0.7 Mach probably put you in the low speed buffet warning region. Amber lines mark the upper and lower buffet boundaries on the PFD speed tape.

Yeah I know that. My question is could flying over the hurricane have affected the speed. I was on ap ans vnav speed the entire time.

The hurricane could cause a large change of wind velocity which would change your airspeed temporarily, like a windshear.
