June 19, 200421 yr I had an amazing low level clearance over london city centre in a seneca Five twin by Thames Radar.Initially I was cleared south to North over London Bridge west of London city airport but then turned even further west over the city because of departing aircraft.I snapped some pictures although the air was fairly turbulent. If anyone is interested I can place these shots in the screenshot forum later today or tomorrowBestPeterhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/80757.jpg
June 19, 200421 yr Oh man, fantastic shot Peter! Looks like you had a nice little flight there. Years ago we had a 9 day trip to London for our vacation. I loved it. You know what I'd like to beg and plead from you? I'd really like the FULL SIZED .bmps of those shots! ;-) I'd be much obliged if you'd be willing to zip them up and send them to me. Only if you want to though. And yeah, I think you should post them in the screenshot forum of course!Cheers,Jim
June 19, 200421 yr JimI can send you ONE full size of your choice but the LOT would take forever ;-)There were only three other aircraft over the city, two police helicopters and the London eye Seneca 2 which passed close by to me checking traffic.Parliament which has a tiny restriction zone around it was clearly visible almost directly below although that shot has blurred due to the turbulence and the fact that I was on a radar heading and unable to manouvre to get another take.Peter
June 19, 200421 yr Peter, thanks for the image. Boy, does that bring back memories. See that gray painted ship in the middle of the Thames? For those of you not familiar with London or WWII, that is HMS Belfast. The last remaining WW II Cruiser and one with quite a history (look her up in Google for more info). She was the venue for a reception in 1989 for the officers and scientists aboard the Royal Netherlands Navy's "Tidemann" (sp?) which had made its way up the Thames and tied up to the Belfast that morning. Yours truly was there for the reception and what a night that was. Can remember going to dinner with a number of Dutch officers and embassy types, but don't remember where or what I had for dinner. Those sailors and diplomats can drink!!! The next day I got on an airplane and headed off to Umea, Sweden where I rode a Coast Guard Ice Breaking tug for two days. I landed in Umea in one of the biggest snow storms they had had since the '30's. Peter, yes, do post more in the screen shot forum.
June 19, 200421 yr HI,Was your flight at about 8:00 am in the morning? If so Then I SAW YOU and you looked so graceful up there. I was walking down Lower Sloane Street towards Sloane Square Tube Station, to go to work in Liverppol Street. Man if there was an Airfield near by You could of given me a lift :).If it wasnt you, then some else also had a low Clearence as well.I hope to see you fly past again someday. Every body in the street was looking up at you or whoever it was.Nice oneJason
June 19, 200421 yr JasonI wish it was but im afraid this flight was around 1645 local time and the return flight after a morning collection and afternoon return of some business people. You more than likely saw the "eye in the Sky" Seneca which was checking the traffic flows in the morning rush hour.I was down around London at that time but into Fairoaks for the morning collection and not out via London City :-(Peter
June 19, 200421 yr TomI really am pleased that I managed to capture a memory from the past 4 you.It is surprising what you can capture in an aerial photo which isnt apparent at the time.I will put up the others on Sunday although the turbulence wrecked some of them :-(Best wishesPeter
June 19, 200421 yr What a great picture! I would love these.Thats the Tower Thistle Hotel directly behind the Tower Bridge. I have stayed there many times! (and of course next to it the Tower of London!Eric AND
June 19, 200421 yr The last time I stayed at the Tower Thistle, which was 2-3 years ago now, The HMS Britannia was on her payoff cruise and anchored just south of the Tower Bridge for two nights. Beautiful all lit up next to the Tower. Sad to see this great ship and symbol of the Royals be parked. However her web site is http://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk/Eric AND

June 19, 200421 yr Peter,Stunning stuff.I recall taking a photo from the terminal at McCarron, Vegas looking at the LUXOR casino/hotel.I then created the same view from Fs2002 Vegas add on, and challenged people to spot the difference! Similar shot of KLM at Amsterdam gate and FS simulation. We gotta match this photograph you posted up with Fs.Well done, and thanks for post.
June 20, 200421 yr You are VERY LUCKY!!! When I was in London(one of 5x's lol) last feb. I remember seeing tons of FOOKER's turning for EGLC. I would love to know what it's like to fly over London.. did it once on a UA 777. The rests were Ryanair 738's from EBCI.
June 20, 200421 yr The problem with a 172 is that you would never be allowed to overfly the centre of London at this level (1500 ft).An engine failure and you would have to take to the river ;-)I believe that to fly into London City airport you need a check ride and the aircraft has to be approved for the steep ILS glideslope. On top of that the landing fees are severe.Peter
