Deafult FSX zoom and VC in training flights?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Having problems with the tutorials training in FSX, in that each time a training flight starts, it is zoomed in soooo far, I cant see any of the instruments in the cockpit, and I have to switch the view to virtual cockpit as it wont let me look down using the hat switch on my Saitek yoke...

Really really annoying, especially as I'm trying to fly the landing tutorials, and as fast as the instructor flight starts, by the time I have zoomed out all the way, and switched to VC mode, it ends the flight because it says "This flight isnt going so well, so we will end it here"

Arghhhh.. Its not going so well because I cant bloomin see the RPM's, airspeed, flap settings or anything due to the zoomed in view..

So far, every tutorial lesson has had this default setup, and I'm really trying to find a way to set it so that for every flight, every time FSX loads, I want it zoomed out all the way, and already in virtual cockpit mode so I dont have to change it, ever...

Is this possible?

I have done several searches for this but have come up empty handed so far....

Hi!

First thing to do, in your FSX display settings > aircraft tab > Default cockpit view (set to "3-D virtual cockpit")

Then exit fsx to save it. Now go to the folder where your fsx.cfg lives. You'll find a file called cameras.cfg. Open it and find the following:

[CameraDefinition.002]

Title = Virtual Cockpit

...

InitialZoom = 0.7

Set the initial zoom to whatever you want it to be. Mine is 0.7 for 70%.

While you're there you can also adjust the panning speed if desired (PitchPanRate and HeadingPanRate)

Save the file, start FSX and all should be well.

Thanks to you, I finally found the camera file. Is it possible to REMOVE one of the views (Tower View, which always seems to hang up or take forever to load).

Yeah really easy...

Find that same cameras.cfg ( C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX in case you forgot) and enter

CycleHidden = True

At the end of CameraDefinition.007 and CameraDefinition.008 (to remove tower view)

What about pausing whilst you do the zoom?

(I have been flying FS for years and years and always zoomed out a bit, to 0.6 or so. I just discovered zooming out to 0.3! It is soo much better! gives the display a proper 3d feel, so you can see the scenery going past you. much better depth perception. Not sure how it would work without Track Ir though. You have to sort of reset the view to bring your head closer to the cockpit panel, otherwise it looks bad)

Nice, finally sorted it out last night, thanks guys :-)

I was previously ending up pausing then having to zoom out, but that was a pain in the neck...
