To start out with, in regards to your Texture_Bandwidth_Mult=400, here's a quote from NickN from his guide on Setting up FSX and Tuning it:

"IMPORTANT: This setting IS NOT THE SAME AS FS9! The amount of data being tasked is MASSIVE compared to FS9.

DO NOT SET THIS TO 400! SETTING THIS TO 400 IS A MYTH IN FSX!"

He recommends a setting of 70 or 80.

Best regards,

Jim

EDIT: I note you have Texture_Bandwidth_Mult twice, once with a 400 figure and another with a 40!!

So to answer your question, no, your cfg is not good.

What else needs to be updated please?

I have removed the multiple Texture_Bandwidth_Mul and set the one to 80. What is this for exactly?

Here's the best I can do: From Rafael Cintron, part of the FS Graphics and Terrain team, comes this description:

“The TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT option in the Graphics section is the target frame rate use for calculating texture bandwidth. The higher you set this value the more textures we will allocate and copy per frame to the graphics card. The lower you set this value, the less we will allocate and copy up to a minimum limit. As an example, the default rate in the “high” perf bucket setting is 40. The lowest perf bucket setting is 10.

Higher settings on this flag can cause stutters on frames where the terrain system has finished compositing lots of textures. Lower settings can reduce stutters on busy frames and spread out the load across multiple frames“

So thinking this thru, if the value you set is 40, and your frame rate limit is 30, then we will send 40/30 or 4/3 as much textures per frame.

Best regards,

Jim

Jim

Thanks! Any other tips for my FSX.cfg?

Yah, but that was written a l o o o n g time ago, Jim. The 4xx, 5xx & 6xx Nvidia GPU's, and the 6 &7000 series AMD cards can take a whole heap more data than the 8800 ever did. As described in one of my DX10 posts - I can force ground spiking/artifacting with the 580, by simply moving the TBM down from 120 to 93. A similar result can be achieved by starting with high amount of road vehicles, and reducing them:, similarly with BufferPools=1. Playing with those settings will reduce it, and same subject moving from water at 6 pulled down to 5. Nick isn't always right, and he expresses for too much disdain for the good work that others - like ******* Altuve - have put into the hobby. Those quoted settings above by Venustus, were all recommended by Holger Sandeman and Bojote, and they were not "trash" or "all garbage".

Hi Paul,

But it still applies as FSX has not been upgraded. They say the TBM should not be any higher than 120 so moving it down to 93 is good. I have mine at 80. The issue is not these figures though. For FS9 users, the TBM could be as high as 400 and was recommended. See my post #3 above in regards to what NickN had to say about this subject. I think the modern 5 and 6 series video cards can handle a setting of 120. Since it causes stutters if set too high, you will know if you have your setting too high. Guess that's why I don't see much stuttering where others are really having issues with it.

I totally disagree with your assessment of NickN. If you look at his guide, he gives credit where credit is due and he has given credit to Bojote on a couple of tweaks.

Best regards,

Jim

FSX hasn't - it's the hardware that has changed, Jim, and I've yet to get stutters from the higher settings recommended in the DigitalThemePark's Performance Settings spreadsheet. A few years back a group of simmers created a formula (I can't give their qualifications) that used the GPU memory clock, the memory bandwidth, maximum bytes/cycle and maximum bytes/frame. The 580 came out at 157, and I used that setting since I found it. I've found no other documentation to prove (or disprove) the formula, and 20 is only a recent setting for me: I'm actually using it as a result of Nick's recommendation (and multiples of 3 - but I don't know his reason for that)..

"If you look at his guide, he gives credit where credit is due and he has given credit to Bojote on a couple of tweaks." All recent changes. One doesn't use "crap", "rubbish", "garbage", "knows nothing", about other folks. Nick's version of life is very Black or White. I've always found life that life is full of different shades of grey...
