September 11, 201213 yr Title says it all really. Looking through quite a large installation of FS9 trying to tidy out unrequired/duplicate files. The Addon Scenery/Scenery folder has numerous (a huge amount) of various AFCADs BGLs etc from my initial attempts at adding various sceneries. Other than starting afresh is there a definitive list of what should be in this folder. Many Thanks Jim
September 11, 201213 yr Hi Jim, I have deleted this folder and the corresponding entry in the scenery.cfg file. I install every addon scenery into a folder structure sorted after continent - country - city. Worldwide scenery addons (scenery libraries, worldwide mesh etc.) are in a "World" folder. This works fine, and it's easier for me to hold things sorted. Regards, Harald Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
September 11, 201213 yr I keep mine empty, yet active. If I want to preview a scenery I can dump it in there for testing and if I later decide to keep it, I will rename the folder and add it to the Scenery Library and create a new Addon Scenery folder. This way I can check out a scenery without the trouble of having to restart the sim after adding it to the Library. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
September 13, 201213 yr By default, addon scenery\scenery and addon scenery\texture are empty but active at the highest default priority. It has been a typical recomendation to place "AFCAD" files (single bgls which update airport facility data) into this folder. Whether or not you do this is your choice. For the most part, when new scenery areas are added, they are given priority higher than "addon scenery" so over time with a big install "addon scenery" will have a priority around the middle of the whole scenery.cfg list. This may or may not be what's best. That's why I use a dedicated scenery area just for AFCAD files which I manually keep at the highest priority by configuring scenery.cfg. I also use addon scenery as a quick test location, but not for long-term configuration. scott s. .
September 13, 201213 yr I use a dedicated scenery area just for AFCAD files which I manually keep at the highest priority I do the same except I keep that folder below addon airports in the Scenery Library. That way if I add an airport addon that has it's own Afcad and I also have a stand-alone Afcad for the same airport, the addon's Afcad will have priority. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
September 13, 201213 yr Many thanks for the replies. I wasn't too sure if it was a "system" folder and my playing about in it had screwed up my installation. All the best Jim
