they are the green bar lights usually seen on US military fighters, used mostly for night formation flying.

Thanks for stepping in Michael. I should have explained it fully in my question. I did find an F-14D by Dino that has them. The lights are built into the model. I was hoping some expert had figured out how to make an effect for them so I could add them to other military planes without them. Bob.

I know how to do it using fx, but I wouldn't want to do it.

Most FSX lights involve a flat plane, with a texture applied to it, that is constantly rotated to face towards the user.

The line:

Face=1, 1, 1

in an fx file rotates the fx so it is always pointing towards the user.

Change that to Face=0, 0, 0 and the fx will point in one direction only.

You'd then need to use a rotation value to rotate the fx so it points the right way.

Then you'd need to create a new texture with a green line and reference that.

Then you'd need to create separate fx for each light (ie the left light will point in a different direction to the right light). And each plane would need tweaked fx so they pointed out in the right direction.

Definitely doable but I wouldn't want to do it.

Using fxtool with FSX (if you have the SDK installed) would make the process a lot easier.

Hi Anthony. Thanks for the info. I am amazed that no expert hasn't made one by now. I might try myself. Bob.
