MD-11 Start Up Characteristics?

Featured Replies

Are you sure that you aren't mixing it up with a 737? As far as I remember in the ITVV they started the engines at positive oil pressure. Might be wrong though...

Yes you are quite correct! I just watched it again and indeed they introduce fuel at positive oil pressure. Thanks for correcting :)

If you add the TSS soundpack for them with it....starting the engines with speakers a little high and the bass from the subwoofer on, it will rock your world.

If you add the TSS soundpack, you will ruin the whole experience and it will NOT sound like the real aircraft at all. Sorry to be so harsh about that, but the INSIDE sounds of the TSS MD11 soundpack are rubbish.

We've spent dozens of hours of recording and tweaking to get it right, don't ruin them with the TSS package, this is wasted money really.

TSS do have some decent sound packages, but the MD-11 package is NOT one of them.

Well it is all relative to the user I guess. Seeing as how that soundpack is actually quite popular I would go as far to call it rubbish. Certainly nobody talks about your work as rubbish.

GE engines: recommend fuel on at 15% N2

PW engines: recommend fuel on at max motor (at least 20% N2)

source: Im engine run qualified on both engine types on the MD11.

Beech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?
ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry.

Well, we may be talking the difference between real sounds and "cool" sounds. The PMDG is extremely accurate and realistic, while the TSS may be really "cool" sounding. Always seems a little odd to me that given the extensive effort put in to making this machine as realistic as possible, that anyone would swap anything out for any part of it, to be honest. But, as you say, if you prefer the non-realistic version, that's your choice .
