Install problem

Featured Replies

I just installed a new motherboard, cpu etc. and am reinstalling X-Plane 10. I downloaded the latest installer and the installation went fine except when installing scenery. I selected scenery for the West Coast of North America to be installed, the installer initially asked for DVD number 3 to be placed in the DVD drive. I put it in, Windows 7 recognizes it, but the scenery installation just keeps asking for the DVD and never installs any scenery from it.

I have tried it several times always with the same result. I have had absolutely no problems with the DVD or the new computer. I have installed tons of software up to this point from the DVD with no problems of any kind.

Confused!

Check the surface of the DVD to see if there are any scratches or smudges, fingerprints, etc. If dirty VERY GENTLY wipe it with a soft, clean, and damp cloth. Let air dry and give it a gentle buff with another soft clean cloth, only this time dry.

I know my new set of DVDs were smudged and scratched. While they installed fine I was not happy with getting what I consider damaged DVDs, especially for the price paid.

Jon's advise is good, inspect each DVD, clean with a very soft cloth and clean cloth. After that find a better way to store the DVDs than the cardboard holder provided.

Take care,

Thanks,

Thanks for all the input, I tried all of the above. Disc 3 was quite clean with no scratches etc. but I went ahead and cleaned it anyway. Same problem, windows 7 sees the Disc but the X-Plane installer just keeps asking for the DVD. Even with the installer on the screen I can go to the DVD see all files etc.

I thought maybe I had downloaded the demo installer by accident so I downloaded the installer again, it shows me a file date of 3/16/2012 at 9:22 PM and a file size of 4,375 KB. I presume I have the correct installer? I definitely am not installing from the X-Plane DVD #1, I have placed the installer in my X-Plane folder and running it from there. X-Plane 10 itself installed fine.

I tried installing some scenery for Europe only, the installer initially asked for DVD number 4, same problem as DVD 3. It's pretty unlikely I have two bad DVD's.

I tried installing X-Plane 10 on one of my other computers, it installed fine using the downloaded installer, but again when I was asked for DVD 3, the installer just kept asking for the DVD. This makes me suspect I have a bad installer but I keep downloading it from X-Plane.org so I presume I have the correct one.

I can't figure out what is causing the problem

hm, that's really strange!

Could you post a screenshot of what happens when you try to install the Global Scenery?

I'm also on Win7. Scenery installation works flawless for me, when it asks for the DVD8(for example), I put it in and seconds later the progress goes on. Win7 sees the DVD and asks what I want to do with it, but I just close that window and everything works fine.

That's why I asked for a screenshot, it may help us to help you out.

Hi Marcus

Thanks for the response. I have been at this all morning trying to figure it out.

Screenshot 1 is the scenery I have selected.

Screenshot 2 is the prompt from the installer to insert DVD number 3

Screenshot 3 shows that the DVD has been recognized by Windows.

When I close the autoplay window and click continue the installer simply returns to screenshot 2.

thanks for the screenshots!

That's a hard nut to crack!

I will think about it and will do some more scenery installs(luckily I don't have the complete Global Scenery installed yet, basically Europe)

But I can't promise you something, sorry!

OK, one thing that's strange to me in first place is that in your "Autoplay" window says you have a X-Plane 9 DVD in the drive!

Of course the Xp10 installer can't recognize a v9 DVD!

look at my autoplay window(it's german but it's the same)

I am a complete IDIOT. You solved it. I just realized I am using my set of X-Plane 9 DVD's instead of 10. They were sitting on my desk to be archived and I simply picked them up and did not even look at the DVD labels.

You (and others) have my humble apology for being so dumb (I am almost 73 so getting stupid in my old age).

Thanks for putting me on the right track

No problem! You're welcome!

I know strange things can happen, the solution is right in front of you, but you just can't see it!

Happens to me also!

Take it easy!

Marcus

Most probably a stupid / useless question but, did you start the installer as "Run as Administrator"?

Nah, I started it as Stupid!! (see post #9 above), I have full admin rights on the computers (but I probably should not as dumb as I was on this one!).

 Don't worry, those "senior moments" can happen to ANYONE. I had one at work last night that kept me there 2 hours past quitting time, and of course it was on a Friday when all I wanted to do was get home. At any rate, good to see you're back on track. Have fun!

Glad it was something simple. When I looked at the screen shots the v9 jumped out at me.

Put it down as being human. :D We all make, or will make, mistakes like this. Best to laugh it off and move on.

Take care,

Thanks,
