X plane 10 steering problem
+1 for checking settings.

Install problem
Glad it was something simple. When I looked at the screen shots the v9 jumped out at me. Put it down as being human. We all make, or will make, mistakes like this. Best to laugh it off and move on. Take care,

Install problem
I know my new set of DVDs were smudged and scratched. While they installed fine I was not happy with getting what I consider damaged DVDs, especially for the price paid. Jon's advise is good, inspect each DVD, clean with a very soft cloth and clean cloth. After that find a better way to store the DVDs than the cardboard holder provided. Take care,

Just purchased X-Plane 10
Donald, thank you for the PA28.

Open Streetmap and X-Plane 10
MdMax, I would disagree with you mostly because I was born and raised there. WP has houses and small businesses along Rockwell (the street on the east side of WP). There are businesses on the corner of 50th and Rockwell too. It has been 14 years since I lived there so I can only imagine density has grown. There are also housing additions near this GA airport. Thanks,

Open Streetmap and X-Plane 10
Maybe it is OSM but when I try to generate scenery for Wiley Post field in Oklahoma City it does not generate anything. Using OSM in XPX I get good renditions for Hillsboro Municipal near Portland, OR. Have not tried using OSM2XP for that. I like the tool though and plan to see about other places I've lived such as Austin, TX. Take care,

Ordered x-plane 10 but perhaps regretting it
Going to have to try those settings. But watch out. A "staff member" is moving threads they "think" belong elsewhere. Not sure exactly why as the "text" provided is not really helpful. I did an introduction thread after joining and it got moved. Just as soon as someone starts talking about resolutions or settings things get moved to Tips and Tricks. But your post is appreciated and I will take a look to see if I can improve my fps on my Mac Pro 3,1 Quad 2.8 (that's 8 cores) with 12GB ram and a brand new ATI 5770. I really should be getting better and any help provided is appreciated, except changing from Apple back to Windows.

installing x-plane 9
go to X-Plane.com and download the X-Plane 9 installer. When I got v10 I was instructed to NOT use the installer on the DVD but to download and use the installer/updater. As I am also looking in to v9 of X-Plane I would expect the instructions to be about the same. The installer is available at http://www.x-plane.com/downloads/older/ Take care,

Might I ask a question as to "why" this was moved from General to Tips and Tricks? Thank you kindly,

Ordered x-plane 10 but perhaps regretting it
I look forward to 64-bit so I can get a little bit better frame rate. Just upgraded to the ATI Radeon HD 5770 on my 2008 Mac Pro running 12GB of memory. Any suggestions on improving FPS are appreciated. At this time I can get high 30's. Not running HDR and clouds are down to I think 20%, maybe 25%. Still playing with settings as the new card was installed this morning. Thanks,

Ordered x-plane 10 but perhaps regretting it
Hi, Yes, you can load planes and everything else. The main restriction on the demo is one location of scenery and 15 minutes of flight control time. when you get the discs, be sure to go to x-plane.com and download the installer. the information I read says to NOT use the installer on the DVDs. Also, delete your demo folder but BACKUP your purchased/downloaded planes first. My standard practice is to download all items to a folder, extract the planes there and then copy them as needed. This way I should not lose my downloaded content. To see more of a panel you need to use the shift-9 keyboard shortcut to use the 3D panel. The panel shown with the W key is pretty static. There are threads here and on the x-plane.org forums about tweaking flight models via settings. The Settings menu is daunting at first. I would pause the sim and take time reviewing the different settings. Hopefully this will help and reduce your frustration a little. Take care,

Any advice for a complete noob (much appreciated)
Morning, While it hasn't been 28 years since I last played a flight sim, it has been sometime and so I started off buying the right equipment. For me that was a yoke, rudder pedals and trim control. But that is pretty expensive. The X52 is a popular controller so I would start by searching Google or this Forum for X52 and X-Plane to see what past posts were like. Which plane are you trying to fly? My suggestion is the Cessna 172 as it is a pretty easy plane to fly. Once you get used to X-Plane you can change to faster and more complicated planes. Take care,

Well I'm not getting that yet. My ATI 2600 can generally get 19fps. Searching the web and viewing YouTube for people with similar rigs to mine report ~102fps in x-plane. So if I dialed up the eye candy and still got 50 or 60 fps that would be great. Parting with nearly $300 is the hard part.

Rudder Pedals
Since posting earlier today I've done some research. What was I thinking when I said 40 fps. It seems my system should be able to get ~100 fps with a ATI Radeon HD 5770. Shows you how long it has been since I did a flight sim because back then 40 fps was considered very good. Now to talk myself in to the 5770.

Rudder Pedals
Hi folks, Ordered the Saitek Cessna Pro Rudder Pedals this morning. The regular Pro pedals were cheaper but on Amazon the place selling them had no feedback and the Cessna Pro Pedals are sold and shipped by Amazon. Now thinking of upgrading the aging ATI 2600 for the ATI Radeon HD 5770. Currently framerates in the Demo are just barely under 20 fps and I'm thinking with the 5770 I can get those up to 40 at the same settings I have now if not higher. Being on OS X does limit some things but I'm not about to give up the investment in this system and there are not a lot of general flight sims available like there once was. People's thoughts on the ATI Radeon 5770?

Rudder Pedals
Evening, Having been out of simulators/games for sometime I decided to get back in. Running OS X limits the choices so last week I ordered X-Plane 10 Global (I hope I ordered, the online system failed twice and called the number on the X-Plane page). I also ordered Saitek Cessna Yoke with throttle quad and the Cessna trim wheel and the yoke power adapter for the USB hub. Still need to order rudder pedals and having some issues on which to get. I do not have a PPL though that may change soon. I've flown several different aviation games, CFS, CFS3, Red Baron, Red Baron 3D, IL2 and several others through the years, all on PC based systems. My day job is a web programmer in the real estate industry and I also do photography for fun. While my past was playing fighter sims up to and including the Korean War (F-86 junkie), I plan on using XP 10 for GA as I decide if a PPL is in my future. If anyone can give me some direction on the rudder pedals it would be much appreciated. Also any add-ons that will make XP 10 more enjoyable. Yes, I plan on updating the video card, probably to a ATI Radeon 5770 because it is shown to work in my system.

Any updates since April? Thanks,
