September 16, 201213 yr Chris, I tried you latest bump map files, but do not see a difference. In the attached screenshots, the red aircraft has the bump map files copied into it's texture folder. The other aircraft is the default PMDG livery for comparison. Any ideas? Thanks! Marty Becker PPL - Instrument Rating

September 17, 201213 yr Author TML is set correclty: TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 As for placement of the files, I have tried two things. First, I put the bump files into the particular aircraft's texture folder. When that didn't produce any change. I removed them. Second, I backed up the bump files in the texture.common folder of the PMDG 737-800NGX folder. I then put the new bump files in there with no change either. After each replacement, I always restart FSX just to make sure the files are read in since I am not sure when these files are read during loading. Marty Becker PPL - Instrument Rating

Putting bump or spec files in individual texture folders requires configuring the texture.cfg file in each texture folder, so you will not see any difference by just putting them there. They should go in the common folder that each individual texture.cfg points to to get the files. I use both of Chris's -700 and -800 original bump/spec enhancements for my -700 and -800 aircraft and have been very happy with them. The recent -600s I have painted do have custom spec files included. I did tweak the provided bump files in those -600 ever so slightly and have given some thought to uploading them as a package. But my spec/bump files are made specifically for the "clean" paints that I like to do, so they might not work for someone wanting to use them for a livery to show wear, dirt, grease, etc.. I'll do some tests with Chris's new files, his old ones and the stock ones this evening and try to post some reference screens from each. Steve StubbsUSAF (retired)

Bump maps are a trick of light and shade. If you've changed your TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD to 4096 and dropped them into your livery's folder, they SHOULD be working. No changes in the Texture.cfg should be required. I prefer not to instruct people on altering PMDG's files or replace their default textures, just in case the end user has problems. Mistakes or accidental deletion of their files could cause you to have to reinstall the NGX in order to restore the default textures. Try slowly spinning the aircraft in place (using slew) and see if you see the reflections playing across the surface. They may not show up as well on white aircraft, but I would think you could still see the rivets and lines on that pylon if the light hits them right. I use a black aircraft for testing just to make them stand out to me while I'm working on them. They may disappear against a white background. Chris Hicks
September 17, 201213 yr You most definitely have to get the light hitting correctly to see those bumps, try panning around and they will stop hiding.
September 18, 201213 yr Author Ok, thanks for the feedback. I tried slowing spinning in slew and still had a hard time seeing any difference. I might try Steve's new AA livery, with the blue upper surface and see if that make the bumps more visible. Thanks! Marty Becker PPL - Instrument Rating

Hi Chris, I have your bump maps installed for the 600,700,800 many thanks for those. Are you going to do any for the 900 as well? I noticed the cfg files for the 900 liveries refer to both texture.900 as well as texture.common so I'm not sure if it's picking up stuff from your 800 bump maps. many thanks
