Which Processor?

Btw... not sure what kind of coolant the Enterprise uses. :P

My believe and debatable, is that is was a single Malt Scotch with a twist of Romulan Ale. So as Mr Scott could have a little nip now and then. The man was never sober nor could I blame him. :)

Keep us informed when you get a new one

Ok I got my new one...

The "old" one which had a "slight" problem de-lidded... it ran an x10 IBT max 78°C @ 1.368v 4.8GHz on a H100 (LMU btwn the die / IHS - Timtronics Grey Ice 4200 btwn the IHS & H100 both lapped). Asus TurboEvo did the oc.

New one... Batch# 3225B595 (Costa Rica) using the same Asus oc profile... no de-lid or lap on the cpu... same H100 as above, additional cooling provide by my "dedicated air conditioner" (pic posted in here somewhere) passed a x10 IBT at max 88°C @ 1.400v (still 4.8GHz).

So... 10°C hotter and that with the additional cooling air... but still well within safe limits.

I think that's outstanding and remember, you will never see those temps while flightsimming, so if I was you, I would call it a day as far as messing around with the CPU. Now focus on tweaking FSX and just enjoy your rig! lol

I know how addictive this can be, especially when you get caught up in the whole stability fiasco with P95, IBT and SuperPi. Unless you @Fold on your PC 24/7. lol

Ahhh yes... right... thanks Efrain... I greatly appreciate your comments.

No de-lidding (until next tax check :LMAO: :Just Kidding: ). I was willing to burn one... this one not so much.

Btw dual channel (approx):

Read: 23,500

Write: 25,200

Copy: 28,500

Big difference compared to single channel mode.

Thanks man,

-Rob

p.s. no folding here atm :P

wow huge difference indeed! So it was the CPU afterall, huh? Another thing, don't stress out over those synthetic benchmarks either. ;-) Enjoy your rig, brother!

Shhhhhh.... :Big Grin:

Yeah... re: the benchmarks... I was having the heartburn over the single vs. dual channel mode... so the lid stays on. Performance great with the other so am glad to get this new one in.

Crazy I missed what you said about removing the black die gasket in one of your posts. I was so focused on the lid removal that I got a little slack once it was off.

Time to start logging some hours "in earnest". Again thanks Efrain im%20Not%20Worthy.gif

my 3770k needs about 1.44v to be totally stable in p3d at 4.8ghz. Max temps in p3d are in the high 80s, with the hyper evo 212 in push pull and 4 case fans. I ve run it like this for over a month with no issues.

High 80s in an app that really only uses a single core is borderline. You're free to do as you like with your hardware, I can't recommend it though. I see mid 70s to low 80s on my chip when stress testing. FSX is in the 40s and 50s.

Those are fantastic temps... You are using custom water cooling and I'm on air. My temps when running P3D are usually in the 70s and low 80s, which seems to be quite safe according to what I've read. Perhaps at some point the chip will burn out a little sooner than if the temps were lower, but I figure at that point it will be time for whatever the latest and greatest is, and I'll put the money of a high end water cooler instead towards that. Of course if the thing melts next month I'll be totally wrong!

Hi, I'm about to buy a new processor, and I've thought about Intel Core i7 3770k or Intel Core i7-3820?? Which one is the best for FSX?? I'd appreciate a fast answer, thank you!

both are good and fast

Personally id go with a 2600k. I upgraded to a 3770k when a power surge let the smoke out of my mobo and motherboard and i didnt see much improvement in fsx over my old sandy bridge at the same clock speed, but if you play other games you will notice a significant improvement
