October 4, 201213 yr Well, the 3770 has a 1155 from what I see, so I think I'm good. Yep... that is what a number of "us" are using. IIRC hasse wasn't running stress tests on his Ivy before de-lidding it because temps were too high for that Well the question is then... how high is too hot. Tj Max is supposed to be 105°C (up from 98°C? for sandy bridge). Years ago I felt 70°C was pushing it... now, I think we are "safe" setting RealTemp to alarm at 90°C (should be well below Tj Max) and as long as stability is a non-issue, then temp worries should also be a non-issue. Particularly if the cpu power saving / throttling stuff is not disabled.

The lower the temp, the lower the power, which usually means you can hit a higher clockspeed when overclocking also. My CPU hits about 80 when stress testing with IBT, lower with Prime 95. No idea what FSX hits, not likely to push it out of the 50s if you ask me.
October 4, 201213 yr I have always been of the mind that I will never keep a CPU long enough to worry about the shortened life span of an OC anyways. Chips are made now so fast you could easily fall behind by only upgrading once a year. Lol. William Sequeira

October 5, 201213 yr Hi Did the IBT at 4.8 temps 80-95c this was with H100 http://dl.dropbox.co...1/burn-test.gif my 4.9 and 5 was with delidded CPU and real watercooling The new batches of 3770k seems better some of them do 5ghz at vcore 1.25-1.3 v want one of them, think they do easy 4.8-4.9 on water without delidding If a upgrade now , I would go for 3770k and hope that a get a later batch CPU Hasse http://
October 5, 201213 yr Did the IBT at 4.8 temps 80-95c this was with H100 Aha.... ok thanks. The new batches of 3770k seems better some of them do 5ghz at vcore 1.25-1.3 v Thanks again Hasse for the info. -Rob
October 5, 201213 yr Author Well, I will go with the 3770 then and an H100. Hopefully I can get to 4.8 or so non-delidded. ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee

October 5, 201213 yr Author Keep us informed when you get a new one  Will do. ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee

October 6, 201213 yr COOLANT:Standard Coolant I'd stay away from "standard" coolant... and here's (two examples) why:
October 6, 201213 yr Ozzie, not sure if you're just being facetious or if you're giving advice in a humorous fashion so for the sake of clarity I would recommend to the O.P. that "standard coolant" i.e. distiller water is perfectly fine as long as you use some kind of anti-microbial solution like a silver coil or liquid additive. I went the coil route personally.
October 6, 201213 yr Ozzie, not sure if you're just being facetious or if you're giving advice in a humorous fashion I like my humour like a Pepe Ruiz martini (dry). Most of my posts I try to help... occasionally I try to inject something I find funny with the hope others will too. :Peace: Btw... not sure what kind of coolant the Enterprise uses. -Rob
