June 30, 200421 yr I'm thinking about adding an additional monitor to my Dell 8300/9800 Pro. The addition of the monitor seems very straight forward but I'm not at all sure how it works. I want to have FSNav running while I'm flying, or perhaps my GPS. How do you get those windows to appear on the other monitor? Thanks,Mark :-)
June 30, 200421 yr I am going to let you now how it went for me. I am sure others can say it better. My main V-card is an ATI 9800 pro at 128. (It has two outlets (if you will outlet a place to connect a monitor cable). So there I can connect 2 monitors. I can adjust and or change my resolution and or other display settings as you do with one monitor. (rt click desktop/props/display).OK.I use 3 monitors ( be aware and or advised ((I am no pro at cpu's but it works fine for me)) to maybe call the V-card mfg for a another V-Card that will be a fried too the one you have)My three monitors are (hardware= a 21 by 19.8 (or something like that) monitor 2 is a 17 by 16) PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE TWO (MONITOR ONE AND TWO ARE TUBED FLAT SCRENE SONY MONITORS). ((I am not yelling, I just want you to note this)).Now for monitor 3 I have a Mitsubishi 18 panel monitor. (Yes an 18 as not in 17 or 19 ((hey it was on sell as they got ride of this size)), )The 3rd monitor is connected to an ATI 9500 pro at 128.The reason for connecting the 18 panel to the lower (or second card) is from conversations with the MFG customer service. I realize you did not ask about a 3rd monitor but I hope is the example will help to make some reason for you. A lot of people have a extra (the old small one) hidden in the attic or what have "ya".The point here is as you can pick up a second, (second in the subject matter we were discussing) for a fraction of the cost a year ago. Thus the opportunity is now available to a lot more people.I really like having multiple monitors.I hope this helped a bit. Again I am not a pro at commuters, but enjoy the flight Sim world.P.S. Even though the pc I have is a dell the folks at Comp USA helped me out. When I tried to order can arrange install with Dell it was not available. This was me at the time I tried. I am in Medical sells and have know interest in any Computer Company Take care.Mark
July 1, 200421 yr I use duel monitors on my system and have no problem running fsnav or the gps on monitor 2. I also have as2004 and run the weather radar on monitor 2. However I use window mode. There are some problems if you use full screen mode. That is one of the things Ms. screwed up in fs2004. But there is a lot of work arounds for that on these forums. hope this helps. keith
July 1, 200421 yr Thanks for the info, but how do you get say FSNav to appear on one monitor while running fs9 on the other?
July 1, 200421 yr When you install the second monitor, set the display options to expand the desktop across both monitors. Then, go to the optons in FSNav, undock the window, and drag it to the second monitor ( the "other half" of your two-monitor desktop). It works the same with the GPS, radio stack, etc. Just undock the window and drag it to wherever you'd like it to be. Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. July 1, 200421 yr By all means.I also have a 9800Pro and am running a 21" Viewsonic Pro Series P815 as primary and 21" SyuncMaster 1100p Plus as the secondary. (Also running a third 19" off of a secondary PCI graphic card). After you use it for a while, you will wonder how you ever did without it. Some items may use up a few frames, but you don't need to leave them displayed 100% of the time. If you have a fast enough system, you can even have the spotview displayed on one of the secondary monitors as long as you are not under too demanding condiitons. Good luck:RTH
July 1, 200421 yr WOW! This is it! I think I waited a little too long to do this! :-) Got a little nervous when I lost my cursor (extra monitor is on the left and you have to move to the right to go to additional monitor) but all is well. FsNav on the left, Fs9 on the right...excellent! Thanks for all the great advice! Much appreciated!Mark
July 1, 200421 yr "extra monitor is on the left and you have to move to the right "If you go into display properties you will be able to swap(drag) the monitors relative positions so that the mouse will move correctly IE: move left an it'll apear on the left hand monitor.Dave
July 1, 200421 yr I started using two monitors for flight sim, but now I find that I use two for my work. I now find single monitor computers feel very confined. Once you get used to it, you won't want to go back!
