September 25, 201213 yr Gentlemen, I love the graphics of ActiveSky 2012, but I'd like to disable the weather engine by itself so it doesn't conflict with my OpusFSX weather engine... How to do so? All I seem to be able to find is the ability to switch modes, not to disable it entirely! Regards

September 25, 201213 yr Author Just don't launch AS at all. Run OpusFSX FSX. That's it. You will still have the textures from AS2012. The main reason I want to disable the weather engine is so I can fire it up to access graphics changes WITHOUT it attempting to access the HiFi servers. I waited and waited and waited for all the failed attempts this morning just to get to the main program for the graphics swapping. So is there a way to actually set AS2012 to not access servers for weather updates?

Setting the textures in AS is kind of a one and done type thing, isn't it? I haven't paid that much attention to it I guess but why do you need to set them per flight? September 25, 201213 yr Cant you just install the textures and shut it down, like REX. Then use what ever weather engine you desire.
September 25, 201213 yr Author I'm not sure about that or if it's even possible. You could set the textures, quit AS, then launch FSX/Opus. Yes, it's possible, I just figured it out: Wx Options button, Bottom Left Box, "Automatic Downloads" box, uncheck, Save and Apply! Not totally sure it completely disables the ActiveSky weather engine, but using your obvious suggestion above, I can now enter ActiveSky 2012, quickly without a wait, make any graphics changes, and exit since I really don't need it running in the background. Bingo. Setting the textures in AS is kind of a one and done type thing, isn't it? I haven't paid that much attention to it I guess but why do you need to set them per flight? Quite often, I like to randomize the graphics selections and install, other times, I like to check the weather at start/end and install specific themes prior to starting FSX... ActiveSky is really great for the versatility in it's graphics.
September 25, 201213 yr Moderator You are aware that and graphics changes must be made with FSX not running, right? Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
September 25, 201213 yr Author You are aware that and graphics changes must be made with FSX not running, right? Vic Correct, but I have no need to wait for the HiFi servers just to access the graphics part of ActiveSky 2012. I now have the convenience of a choice between 2 weather engines allowing me to switch to one or the other without being 100% at the mercy of a single software's weather servers being down, such as this morning with HiFi's servers.
September 25, 201213 yr Moderator Sounds good to me! A lot of people make the mistake of trying to change graphics after FSX is loaded - just wanted to be sure. Glad you like the graphics - I prefer them to REX or FEX myself. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
September 27, 201213 yr Commercial Member You still need to access the servers to verify you are running a legit licensed program in order to use the AS graphics. Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager

Losing the benefit of the best weather engine around though but it's his call. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
September 27, 201213 yr Commercial Member Yes, I meant to add to that post but my son came home sick from school and I forgot about it. Thanks!! Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager

Try comparing As2012's depicted weather to NOA weather and you'll find in a lot of cases that it's way off. Regards
September 30, 201213 yr I always use the WX influenced theme in AS2012. I might switch to the Opus Software in which case I would turn off the download option in AS2012. I assume that would mean the end of using the WX influenced theme. Is this correct? Thank you Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
October 1, 201213 yr Moderator The Wx theme is a function of AS. You could still have it load the wx textures, then shut it down after they are loaded. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
