September 27, 201213 yr Hi, Does anybody know of another FMC for the PMDG NGX which only connects via USB to a PC? I know about the flyengravity one (http://www.flyengravity.com/page/shop/7/6), but I wonder if there are any alternatives. The price of the flyengravity one is quite steep as well. Opencockpits' FMC must connect via USB + VGA which is a problem for my setup, so that's why I asked for only a USB connection. Hope somebody knows. September 27, 201213 yr This one is expensive as well but I like this company. Uses USB and VGA. http://www.flightdec...info.php?id=712 Brad Rich
September 27, 201213 yr Author Unfortunately that one needs a VGA-connection, which I don't have a spare of. So I really need to find something USB only. Hans WolteringMy Airplane Photos on Flickr - My Website
September 27, 201213 yr This one is USB only but I have heard both good and bad about this unit. http://www.vrinsight...ode=SELECT_FORM They also have another version that does require VFA. Seems like the better units require VGA. http://www.vrinsight.com/public_html/index.php?module=Board&action=SiteBoard_1&iBrdNo=14&sMode=SELECT_FORM Brad Rich
September 27, 201213 yr Hello Hans I have the engravity unit & have had for some years. The unit is expensive as you say but you will not be disappointed. Mike Summers
September 27, 201213 yr For what it's worth, when the new version of the NGX SDK is out so that one can read out the CDU text, I will update my driver for the OpenCockpits FMCv3 so that it can be completely networked on another computer (USB and VGA). This may help if you can't connect another display to your main FSX machine for whatever reason. Andreas
September 27, 201213 yr Hans, Is the engravity unit monotone or color? * Orest Orest Skrypuch President & CEO, UVA www.united-virtual.com
September 27, 201213 yr Why not get a USB to VGA adapter, like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-VGA-Display-Adapter-Available-USB-2-0-3-0-Hi-Speed-Port-For-Desktop-Notebook-/180976332304 Should be more than fast enough for simple text...
September 28, 201213 yr Author Well, Based on the post from Orest I did a bit more research and it appears that the Flyengravity one is monotone, making it impossible to show the magenta colors of the specific settings (speed-restrictions etc.) so I've been looking to other solutions. The question why I asked for a USB only version is that I am working on an iMac, which does not have a VGA-out connection. However, I found out that it's possible to get a Thunderbold/Displayport adapter to VGA, which would allow me to use a VGA display. This would open up the possibility for the Opencockpits FMC, which really does look good. The Vrinsight one is just not "the" FMC, as in, it doesn't look like the real deal, which I would want if I buy one. Now, I feel like ordering the opencockpits one and a Displayport-VGA adapter, and get it to work. Are there standard files that link the Opencocpits FMC v3 to the PMDG NGX or do I have to work with all the various software to get the key assignments working? September 28, 201213 yr See this excellent work by roarkr: http://forum.avsim.n...-efiss-and-cdu/ (haven't tested the CDU support (yet), due to lack of one...) [edit: Ook rechtstreeks te downloaden van de Opencockpits site, Hans!]
September 28, 201213 yr For the OpenCockpits FMC and the NGX, there is also my driver that is currently in beta testing, see the last few posts in http://forum.avsim.net/topic/380505-hardware-cdu-compatible-with-the-ngx-tips-wanted/ for more information. It's completely standalone and it does not require any configuration and it does not require SIOC. I'll be happy to provide it to anyone who wants to beta test it. Andreas
September 28, 201213 yr Author I simply want to check both. I just ordered the OC FMC, so I can't wait to have it in my hands. Might take another week because of the stupid paypal payment verification check (should've used my credit card), but anyway, it's going to be delivered by the company I'm working for so I'm sure they won't delay it any further Ellen, I'm going to download that. Have a look into it before I even have the FMC. Andreas, I certainly am willing to Beta-test your driver. If you could tell me how to participate... Thanks! September 28, 201213 yr This is probably irrelevant....I used to use a Mimo UM-740 7 inch usb monitor as a fmc - worked great in windowed mode, something happened over time which halved the FPS in windowed mode so I stopped using it, if you get good FPS in windowed mode I would recommend it. You don't have physical buttons, but for £150 it is a descent enough option. ...if you want a proper FMC hardware, forgive me and ignore the above. Chris Farrell
September 28, 201213 yr I'm still undecided what to purchase - either fds or OC cdu. I'm headed towards fds due to cdu bay compatibility and their customer support but it is nearly twice the price of the OC one. Does anyone know if pmdg ngx has to run in window mode if you have the cdu outputting from another video card? Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
September 29, 201213 yr Does anyone know if pmdg ngx has to run in window mode if you have the cdu outputting from another video card? Fullscreen or window mode doesn't matter. I use Nvidia surround mode for the main display and the CDU is connected to a cheap video card. It works great, no FPS impact.
