Good 3rd party soundset for the NGX?
The NGX sounds are pretty damn good. The OP is allowed to ask the question without everyone getting so 'sensitive'.....it's only a sim. If the OP buys another sound set that's fine, it might be better, worse or the same quality. Really, there's more to life.

Constant activation after upgrading to Windows 8
damocles replied to Mirtma's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumNot much help from me, sorry. I always wait a few months before investing in 'new' O/S as it can take a while for developers to update their software. It's not an easy task.

Stuck left landing gear
Are you flying beyond gear speed? might cause a malfunction. I have seen this in FSPax as well - also only 2 of 3 gear only dropping....the fix was a hard touch down to release the gear. Not sure what to do in the opposite situation I don't use FSCew - does it have aircraft maintanence options - perhaps something needs to be repaired over time?

Good FMC for NGX with only USB
This is probably irrelevant....I used to use a Mimo UM-740 7 inch usb monitor as a fmc - worked great in windowed mode, something happened over time which halved the FPS in windowed mode so I stopped using it, if you get good FPS in windowed mode I would recommend it. You don't have physical buttons, but for £150 it is a descent enough option. ...if you want a proper FMC hardware, forgive me and ignore the above.

Poor performance with the GTX670 and NGX?
As a rule I think it's bad practice to run any intensive software on the same drive as the O/S, even ssd's....best install on a separate drive [not partition]. 20 to 30 fps is not that bad, if you were getting 8 fps then that would be worth tears. Are you 'seeing' frames drop during the flight or are you just looking at numbers? - if you are just looking at numbers be aware the human eye will perceive 20 to 30 fps as smooth. If you are stuttering then apply tweaks. Affinity Mask will help spread the CPU load, my guess is that you won't see that much of a difference.

from pmdg 737ngx back to fsx default 737...
I have been waiting for a high quality Cityhopper for a while ( bought and deleted the Fokkers as they are rubbish ) and I agree the QW Avro is very nice indeed - a few small issues to be ironed out, but, I love this plane. EGLC is back in play and it took a few goes to get into the 5.5 degree glide slope. FPS are really good too with UK2000 EGLC. Flight One also have the BAe 146, however, do some research as I will not say which better here......also Aerosoft are going to release one too. Are these going to be the same quality as the JS4100, well, maybe, as the JS4100 was not designed as an 'in depth' simulation. FSX can't simulate turboprops, it's a known bug if you look. As per the OP....why would anyone use the default planes? It's like learning the English alphabet - real-world has 26 characters, in this context, FSX default has 5 and PMDG has around 17. There is no home simulation that can fully simulate a plane in flight. Can FSX developers create the illusion, well, yes....

jagged lines on the wings
I had been struggling with this issues for years.......then I installed Nvidia inspector and applied the settings easily found online. No more jaggies. Bliss. Edit: airplane cast shadows on themself...while I know what you mean as it looks crude, I don't think this is the issue.

TrackIR Questions
After a few issues with Track IR and NGX, when looking around the view point would stick resulting in pauses and jerky movement, I discovered the Light Filter Theshold in the camera tab - I have set it to 63 and I now have the full range of view. My normal process is to launch Track IR, sit where I would sit with Yoke/pedals/ center of the screen lined up and press F12 to reset the view - I do this before every FSX sesson....

failure fs passenger + NGX
FSPassengers failures works fine with the NGX. However, if the NGX failures kick in, FSP won't recognise it and you may get a penalty for cutting the flight short.

Could the PMDG add ons be good enough for FAA certification?
True...but! FSX has nothing to do with that - It can't simulate weather or Physics, what you see is an illusion. No doubt about using a real training simulator - of course, that is an essential part of training.
-
Could the PMDG add ons be good enough for FAA certification?
One would hope a pilot would have grasped the basics of flight by instruments [real world] before even considering going any where near an airliner for training.
-
Could the PMDG add ons be good enough for FAA certification?
+1 FSX IS a flawed peice of software and should have no direct relationship with real world training...OK, you know where the buttons are and are familiar with the FMC.....that's as far as it goes.

GoFlight PMDG Driver Now Available
Brilliant and Thank you. MCPpro works well - good job.

New nvidia drivers
+1 on placebo effect. There are way too many factors in FSX that affect it's FPS; add-ons ( both in fsx and running outside ), weather, traffic, location, terrain, hardware bottlenecks ( this can vary in different sessions according to computer usage )....the list goes on.... I occasionally try out new drivers, most of them have issues with FSX, the ones I use are a couple years old and are stable. As FSX is really fickle, I will not change a thing on a whim as I have my system running smoooooth.

Flickering Mouse cursor
I noticed ages ago that there is a conflict between REX ( and possibly other programs that are open ) and NGX. No REX = no mouse flickering, not sure what is causing the issue. I guess the more complex add-ons we have running at the same time, the higher the risk of something going a bit skewed. It's not a big deal to me.

External model anomoly...take a look
Just to check, FSX is installed properly.....Fsx install (run as administrator on everything you install) > open close > reboot (probably not necessary) > SP1> open close > reboot (probably not necessary) > SP2 > open close > reboot (probably not necessary)....pmdg....etcI use PC#2 for checking out demos/betas and sometimes come across this in FSX, this system is definitely not up to date as it has no internet access. Try windows update as there may be direct X , MS Visual C++ or MS.NET Framework updates available. Probably irrelevant but worth a shot!!Vanilla 580 drivers should be able to handle the bird - try the latest drivers though.

why do I get this ?
Actually guys, there is an issue with this. Just look and open your eyes. However, due to the nature of FSX and all it's quirks and weirdness, developers have to invent genius work-arounds to provide the high quality we expect. This is a by-product of a work-around.....blame Microsoft. :)Developers are doing a great job with FSX, which is a redundant piece of software btw, sometimes they just clash a bit as FSX is now pretty much an open source platform and developers have their own way of fixing things/creating enhancements that fsx was no designed to do..

Is ASE weather wrong.

Is ASE weather wrong.
damocles replied to damocles's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumThanks Damian, but I'm not advertising 'the other program' as this program has issues too - which I have objectively stated.I just want to know which program is correct based on my attached image, which no one has answered - I don't really care who has makes it happen in FSX, I just want a good flight, that's all. Quite simple. All I look for is to research real life information - create a flight plan based on that - use a virtual fsx real-time weather program and know which Stars to use for my final. What I don't want is my flight all messed up at the last minute when I can see some massive wind direction discrepancies. Looking at the other forum posts, am I the only one with issues?I have read the manual many times and looked at a lot of posts about this issue.I thought I'd give ASE a shot, but, I just think ASE is not for me. Which is OK.Maybe the 2012 version is better?

texture tiles disapearing and reapearing during low visibility in distance
damocles replied to denver69's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumI used to see terrible tile disappearing issues before I used the HighMem=1 fix. Have you used this?

Is ASE weather wrong.
damocles replied to damocles's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumI use TAF data, Flight radar app ( to double check runway allocation ), Aero weather pro app, FSC9 weather check, all running real time and they verify real world weather - I use them on the fly while using the sim. I also look out of the window as I can hear and see approaches and departures into EGLL ( RW 27 approach goes right over my house ) and EGLC - that way I know for real which runways are in use.REX has it's issues which is why I tried ASE, but, ASE causes more frustration than I need.

Is ASE weather wrong.
damocles replied to damocles's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumAfter numerous flights....I can say I have had enough of ASE. It's just not reliable with real world weather.Back to REX.

Is ASE weather wrong.
damocles replied to damocles's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumOK, sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult, I just want to understand........but, if the data is not accurate ( I don't know if either ASE or REX are fully accurate ) won't that cause issues when relating a flight plan or ATC to real world weather?
